Just wanted to let you know I got the book from the library. My niece was kind enough to pick it up for me and I will read it and get back with you it sounds very interesting in case anybody else wants to read it we can discuss it.

Ledonna, Thank you. I go to the library two or three times a week. I read book on various subjects. I will look for this book next time I am there.

Ledonna, I will look for it too as my next grandchild will probably be a girl. ( difficult pregnancy. We all hope and pray that the wee girl makes it).

Thanks Ledonna! I think the author's daughter was born in maybe 2001?- I tried to work it out from the writing date and how old the girl was at times in the book. Might have been a bit later. At least 10 years after my first daughter, who was born 1991. I found the book made me think a lot. Good mix of thinking and cultures in it too, from Jewish to Christian and different ethnic groups so getting a mix of cultures/subcultures thinking. Discussing it would be awesome- we could always go off topic. I have returned mine to the library- might need to borrow it back!

Good book! it's been a few years since I read it, but I remember being glad that she mentions effects on boys too.

I've got to check this out! I had a sociology professor who specialized in gender studies who was pregnant with her first child, a girl. Our classes that semester became quite personal for her as she turned into her own case study, trying to fight off "The Pinking" of her unborn daughter by in-laws who were stubbornly oblivious to her efforts to stave off the princess-effect.
