Cigarette pants with booties: Scrunchy FAIL!

I love the way Angie wears her black cigarette pants scrunched with booties, so I thought I'd give the look a try. And here are the very sad scrunchy results! The opening of my pants hem must be very small because I can't get them to fit over the top of the booties. In #1-3 I tried to jam them over the top of the bootie, but in #4-6 I didn't even try since the bootie opening is so wide. Argh! Do I need to give up on this idea? Get different pants with a larger opening at the hem? Get different booties?

#1-3 - with cognac Trotters (that I'm still debating on K/R)
#4-6 - with suede Report Marks
#7 - pants scrunching nicely with flats (FYI: the pants have to be tailored/taken in)

Agh, I have a pic of my satin cigarette pants with taupe booties I wore on my birthday but can't access it. I'm on the BFs computer because mine is on the fritz. I think having the right ankle fit is key.

I think your issue here is a combination of having too much scrunch at the end plus a very straight tapering on the pants, from the knee down. Your pants look more like skinny jeans, rather than tapered trousers. I might be completely wrong in my observation, however.

The issue is the wide ankle width of the booties, with these particular pants. My booties are slim on the ankle so the hems of my cigarette trousers fold over easily, stay there, and don't stretch out in an odd shape.

That said, I like #4 a lot! I like the way the pants messily tuck into those booties. That's a cool modern look. I wear that look too - so obviously I like it

What are you talking about? Those look great! I'd wear the pants IN the booties, as in #4. They still scrunch. You're right that you can't really stretch the pant leg opening around the top of the bootie if it won't fit. They have to go in. Otherwise you need bootcuts (hence the term "bootcut", haha).

I have these Fluevogs, and with cigarette pants, the pant leg opening is wide enough to accommodate the boots, so the pants will happily scrunch over top of the booties:

..but notice the fairly narrow opening at the top of the bootie. They fit quite close to the ankle. And even then, with true skinny jeans, I have to stuff the jeans into the booties for it too look good.

Exactly what Angie said.

It's the particular booties being wide and the pants being super narrow at the bottoms. My cigarette trousers/skinnies glide perfectly over my black booties and Marcies (fitted at the ankle) and slouch/tuck into my Reports.

Was thinking the same as Angie, these boots openings are wider so the pants won't fit as sleekly over the tops. I too quite like #4-6, though it's a less sleek look it's a lot of fun.

Not sure this helps you but here's my try. Lots of scrunch, but narrow both on the booties and the pant opening.

Thanks, everyone. I guess I'm really still a novice at this. (A year ago I wouldn't have been wearing either booties or skinnies/cigarette pants...so, thank you YLF!)

The Trotters in #1-3 just aren't working (again..more reason for them to be returned), but it sounds like everyone's good with the scrunchiness of the booties in #4-6. As I was posting these I was actually thinking that maybe they worked, but I just wasn't sure. It's great to have everyone's vote of confidence.

Now I want to experiment more with other pants that maybe have a bigger hemline opening, and booties that are more tapered at the top. A whole new look for me!

You all have been immensely helpful.
