Chunky sweater on chunky moi - Edited with new photos

So I've had this sweater for a couple of years but haven't worn it much. It was originally purchased for a family photo color scheme and someone else wore it. I feel like I have apple tendencies that some pieces emphasize - is this one of those pieces? I tried other tops with it, but this chambray seemed to work the best. None of the other necklines worked. I love Aida's WIW gray cardigan with the orange peeking out, but this sweater doesn't seem to lend itself to that styling even if I had a layering tee that would work.

And, speaking of necklines. I'm really putting myself out here with a pic of my turkey neck. Is this short, awful thing something that shouldn't even get near a turtleneck? There are times it would be nice to just cover it up but I don't know if it would end up calling attention to the area and defeating the purpose. Thanks!

P.S. Yes - I know my jeans are too short : )

My neck looks like that. I wear turtlenecks anyway. Maybe I shouldn't, I don't know. But I will probably continue anyway.

I don't think that sweater looks bad, although I don't think it's quite a 10 either. I would love to see it with some crisp black and white.

Didn't think of my black and white houndstooth blouse, JR. It has kind of a funky neckline though, so I wonder......but will give it a whirl. Yes, I know this is on the lower end of the 1 to 10 continuum, but wondered if I could "make it work" so to speak.

I think it has potential but the jeans are throwing me off. Do you have a simple tee & a pencil skirt you could try with the sweater - just to get a better idea of how it works on your body? If it works I would also change the buttons they seem to fight with the texture of the knit imo.

Caro, is it the jeans with the chambray shirt that is off?

I prefer the buttoned-up version in #1/2, and I do think that the button-up blouse style layered underneath will work best because of the neckline. I don't mind pairing chambray with denim, but perhaps since there is volume on top a slimmer bottom would work better? Maybe slim pants tucked into boots to balance the top. I think for experimenting with the look without buying something new, this sweater could certainly work.

I'm not sure pil - I don't mind the idea of it but the jeans are not working for me so that is throwing everything off. The shirt may work if you had a different bottom, I like the colours of the tops together.

Buttoned it's a nice comfy, casual look. You don't look chunky, if that's your worry. The jeans are tad short.

Firstly, you are not chunky! Secondly I actually like the proportions of this outfit. It may not be a 'conventionally" sliming combination (and I am not saying you look big at all) but it is very balanced to my eye:) I prefer the sweater done up. The toggle things, perhaps date it a bit, but hey. Perhaps a less bulky blouse would add something?

I like outfit one with the buttoned up version. For turtlenecks, I don't have a long neck like Angie does, but I enjoy turtlenecks anyway. I fold them over a third time to make them shorter so they aren't hitting me in the lower jaw.

Taking into account some of the suggestions, I've included two new photos. The jeans threw off the combination for Caro, JR suggested black and white with the sweater and Aida thought boots may work. The shoes are black loafers, almost a driving moc.

This has turned into a bit of a challenge for me - rather like a dog with a bone : )

I have discovered these slim black stretch pants get baggy fairly quickly, so I'm afraid there is too much bunching with the boots. Also that the boots are too high contrast? Although I know Aida is team high contrast....
The collar on this shirt is kind of wonky, almost nehru like.

Do you think these are an improvement?

Ok well I think that #6 is just perfect, but hey as you said I AM on Team High Contrast. Black+brown, color, print, texture, this look has it all! Blows all the others out of the water, it's that good

Aida, I'm glad you like this! Now I just have to get up the nerve to wear the combination out of the house. Pants tucked in boots is just showing up around here, some stylings more successful than others.
