Lisa P, I’m with you on the tanks. I got mine last week. I went up one size and hoped. But alas, that ship has sailed indeed,I will only wear it inside the house as fit is off oh, well...

I love that cardigan on you the color is perfect for you. I am glad you are keeping!

I think it looks great! I've had my eye on it too (and I have the tank in black and white). The tank is more spandex than I expected, rather tight as a result, so I'm planning to buy one a size up as well.

I know what you mean about adjusting to the longer cardis again. I got rid of my boyfriend cardigans several years ago because they weren't quite the look I was going for anymore. But I think this look is different. The boxier shape seems very current.

Greyscale - yours is an opinion on matters like this that I particularly value . Thank you .

Irina - glad to know I’m not alone with these tanks .

Thanks, I appreciate that!

I've been enjoying how the chunky cotton cardigan and 90s tank top look became a riff on the twinset that I can get behind! Matching, fitted cardigan and shell twinsets were always too proper for me.

Great color on you! And very pretty and sensual look on you, with the fitted top underneath and the slouchier cardi. Hot!

Lisa, how you have styled this is just stunning, so it is a big yes from me too. You are smart to buy this colour whilst it is available, it is so beautiful on you and makes your complexion glow.

Like the cardi very much, had to laugh over the Hubble comment.Myhusband is equally surprised when l turn up in a co ordinating outfit,l always agree with him and say it’s almost like somebody thought about it isn’t it!Bless them.

With regard to pilling and fuzzing, as it is 100% cotton it should not happen. I find synthetic blends are more prone to that. I like it, looks like it will be really versatile too.

I love this colour too. I think this style of cardigan is cool. It looks great.

Personally, I find cotton knits have the greatest longevity. Acrylic pills as soon as you look at it. And viscose blends are variable.

First reaction....LOVE IT! The color, the texture and even the fit. You look amazing!

The sweater will likely survive if you hand wash it with a sweater wash. I would not toss it into the machine.

Joining the chorus of love this...
And I’ve really given up on tanks as a wear alone item...

Really gorgeous palette on you, Lisa! I love it. (Also laughing about Mr. L. not getting the need to find the perfect earring. I mean, really, right????)

I hear you on the worry about 100% cotton in a loose weave. For me the concern wouldn't be pilling but the possibility of stretching out of shape and fading, which cotton is prone to. I had some (admittedly cheap) sweaters from the GAP a few years back that were forum favourites but I have to admit I had to toss mine after a season because they stretched out so consistently on me that I felt awful in them. But I think this type of loose, flowy cut makes that less an issue -- it's meant to be a bit boxy and oversized.

It is so hard to tell with these! I ordered two BR shawl collar cardigans in the fall in the most scrumptious colours - but they were 100% cotton and so heavy, I knew they would stretch out after a day’s wear and drive me crazy. Stretched out cuffs in particular drive me batty. Maybe try wearing it indoors for a day and see how it goes?

I’m not concerned about pilling as it’s not typically a problem with cotton . It’s surface fuzziness that bugs me with heavy loosely woven cottons . And stretching of cuffs , as Roxanna mentioned . Normally I don’t stress over things to this degree , but this sweater is sitting at a strange price point : ref price is $160 , which I would NOT pay as it’s not *that* special a piece . I paid $100 , which is not a ton of money but is still more than I think the sweater is really worth . BR is doing funny things with their price points now . Anyways , thank you all for the vote of confidence - I’ll be keeping it . I’m a little embarrassed at not having been more aware of this trend until now ( I mean I’m always on top of everything - lol! I must be losing my touch ) and how staid the long cardigan look really is . I’ve always used them for camouflage , and it will take some getting used-to to wear this silhouette .

I don’t think you should ditch long cardigans! They’re useful and work great for lots of things, BUT I do think you should include these, this look really works for you too. I love chunky knits!
The color is one I am sweet on too. It’s really complementary to your coloring.

Also wanted to mention - I just love this colour on you too - it’s that perfect ‘cosmetic pink’ without being too twee or prim. I keep thinking this colour will look nice on me (they always show it on dark skinned models) but then I try it on and I look like a bowl of old oatmeal. Those styling lights areas very deceiving. But on you it looks perfect!

You are right that BR is doing funny things with their pricing lately. I just ordered this same cardigan in forest green to try for $35. Also some wide legged ponte pants and a rust merino cardigan, each for between $35-$38. We will see if they work out...

They seem to be charging more for those bc of organic cotton. Unfortunately, it’s excluding me from trying one atm! I do love that terracotta color tho.
Gonna grab an ON one that Helena kindly posted.

I love this cardigan on you! I am looking for something like this. The clay colour is gorgeous with your skin.

Count me as another who’s been noticing the pricing seems all over the map at Banana Republic. @Jenna, thanks for pointing out the cost may be linked to the higher price of organic cotton. Makes sense - and I’m trying to be more mindful of how items are purchase were produced.

Meanwhile, I recently bought an organic cotton dress from BR Factory which was very reasonably priced and much nicer quality than I expected.

The chunky sweater is absolutely stunning on you. If it turns out that doesn’t last as long as you hope - I hope you won’t beat yourself up about it! You will enjoy it for summer of 2021 and this seems a good time to spoil oneself a bit!

Roxanna - how on earth could the forest green ( which wasn’t part of this new grouping in the store ) be $35??

So the shape is current according to my read of the winds and the color is fantastic for you. My issue with these kind of cardigans is they tend to slide off my shoulders and drive me crazy. I like them best buttoned up. And why is it so expensive? So that they can reduce it by 40% every other day? Sorry to be cranky. You do look fab!

The colour is GORGEOUS. I feel cotton holds up pretty well, better than cashmere these days anyways. Just don’t be like me and let your dog sleep on your sweater...

I've been wondering if Banana Republic is trying to push into the slightly higher end market with these recent collections. I don't want to pay more but it would be nice to have something to fill that niche. Nicer fabrics, organic, etc. I was afraid they'd go in the opposite direction and give in to the pressure to use cheaper fabrics like the Gap has (which hasn't gone well for the Gap...).

But for now it drives me nuts that their prices are 40% off half the time, and full price the other half the time, and I never know if it's worth buying something. At least the quality is high though.

Lisa I 100% understand your reaction to BR pricing. I am like this about JCrew, no sooner than I buy something it gets reduced... or I hold off and then miss out on something I like. Why not just charge a fair price and not be on a constant ‘promotion’ or sales cycle. Crazy that they can sell the same item for $35 in a different colour.

This is a fabulous colour story on you! On trend and also looks amazing on you.

However, I don’t trust BR/Gap at that price point. Totally with you in that one.

On greyscale’s thread I advised looking for the same some of thing at everlane, as I think the quality will be more reliable!

But completely understand if you bite the bullet at get this because it is so fabulous on you!

Smittie, I buy my basic clothes from both, BR and Everlane. I haven’t been disappointed with BR garments when they are 100% natural fibers. So, I hope this cardigan will last long in Lisa P’s wardrobe, it looks fantastic on her

I’ve actually had better luck with Banana Republic sweater quality than Everlane

Everlane is a online option only for me . I don’t have enough experience with the brand to want to order much from them despite the fact that I love their aesthetic . Now isn’t the time for experimentation with ordering and returning and waiting weeks for shipments and credits to one’s credit card . But I hear you all ! From what Ive seen at our local BR , I agree that they are trying to move into a “ better “ price point and higher end look ......the way they used to be 15 years ago . Their new essentials grouping ( or whatever they call it ) is gorgeous and from what I understand is not going be on sale every week .
