Fashion Related Christmas Gifts

Hi Everyone!

I'm getting so excited for Christmas! We've got a short list this year, as my family has voted no gifts (we'll probably still get something small for my Mom, Aunt and Uncle). Brendan is going back to England for Christmas, and it's going to be his Mum's 60th Birthday party while he is there. We went shopping last weekend to find something nice for her (she is REALLY hard to shop for), and we decided to get her a handbag. We wanted to get her a bag she couldn't get in the UK, so we went with Michael Kors.

She is fairly conservative when it comes to her clothing, so we went with a more traditional bag, but the cream leather is so nice, and the gold hardware will work for her because she only wears gold jewelry. Brendan actually picked out the bag. I hope she likes it--because she can't return it, lol.

Ana that bag is gorgeous! I would be tempted to keep it for myself I'm sure she'll love it.

I'm probably getting my mom some earrings, since she has expressed interest in a nice pair of earrings numerous times. I'm still not sure what kind to get. She is pretty simple and doesn't like overly ornamental or fussy things, but I don't want to get anything boring.

Do you think she wants fine jewelry or costume jewelry? I've seen a lot of nice costume jewelry earrings lately.

I'm not planning on getting any for my family or friends, but I have plenty on my list

My family is not that interested in fashion. I am taking my mom, who has had major health issues this past year and has lost about 45 pounds, to get a bra fitting and some new bras as her Christmas present. I'm hoping that will help with her quest for a new wardrobe since, literally, nothing fits.

Gorgeous bag, I'm sure she will love it! My mom is really hard to shop for too, so I usually end up getting gifts for both her and my dad, like restaurant gift cards.

On my husbands side of the family, we usually go the gift card route too. The nieces and nephews are in their teens and we figure they can go buy exactly what they want.

The only fashion related items I am planning on getting are maybe some cute clothes for younger ones.

I am taking my 31 yr old daughter shopping for her birthday soon. That will be a very fashion related trip and I'm looking forward to it. I've already got her looking online for some boots she likes.

Thanks Angie and everyone! I'm excited to see if she'll like it. Unfortunately I can't go with Brendan. The plane ticket for him was extortionate, and we'd have to board our cats for 10 days, which would add another $400 + on top of that. Plus, one of our cats is really skittish and gets traumatized easily, AND he has bladder issues and has to be on a special diet and drink filtered water. Poor cat, lol. Also, if I went, we'd want to do some sightseeing and go to London, which would add even more to the cost of the trip. So I'll be here for Christmas. I'm dog sitting my friend's foster dog though. She's a German Shepherd, and really sweet, but high energy. I'm sure she'll keep me busy. I'll probably be on the forum a lot, too, since I will be on break from school.

I don't generally do fashion gifts unless I know the person's tastes to a "T." With clothes, I'm extra cautious because fit is so important. I usually stick to housewares or something like that.

Ana, I'm sorry you won't be able to go. That's too sad, especially because you won't get to see your MIL's reaction to her beautiful new bag.

I'd be tempted to keep that bag myself.

This year my SIL is getting a purse insert. You may recall, I bought three to see the difference in the sizes. I am using the smallest one. SIL saw mine and went crazy for it, so she is getting the largest one. My sister - who is a fashion horse and has more clothes than anyone I know - is getting the medium one.

My neice is getting a pretty paisley scarf from BR. She went to Spain over the summer and is now in love with scarves.

And my big brother is getting a Harvard sweatshirt! But I doubt that counts as "fashion."

I'm sorry you wont be with your hubby on Christmas. Your family is still in Idaho, right? Will any of your family be able to come to TX??

I don't usually buy fashion related gifts for people. I will buy my daughter a few things, and my son a new snowboarding jacket, but I'm going to trick them into letting me know what they like. Kids are so finicky these days. And as I mentioned in another thread, I'm thinking of getting Jason some converse sneakers.

Dani, when I took my MIL shopping a few weeks ago, I suggested she let me measure her for a new bra. She was surprised at her true size--and went online and ordered some new bras. She called me the other day to thank me for helping her with her bra situation. She couldn't get over how much more comfortable she was wearing bras that actually fit. I saw her on Sunday, and she looked so good with her boobs where they belong! She looked at least 20 pounds lighter just from the new bras. So, while your gift to your mom may seem overly practical to many people, I can truly appreciate how much she will love that gift over all the other gifts she receives.

Ugh Ana, I know. We looked at boarding our herd of cats and it was going to cost more than the pricey tickets to Seattle. Fortunately we have a friend who loves us enough to take care of them when we are gone.
I will be gone the week of Christmas (22nd-27th - not longer because of MY cats...oh what we do for our furbabies) but I'd love to get together with you when I get back if Brendan is still gone. We should do something Christmassy.
My family draws names and swaps gifts. I drew my sister and my husband drew my mother. I want to get them nice, fashionable gifts. They are both incredible, hard working women who deserve something especially nice this year. Knowing what to get is the hard part!
I do love that bag, Ana, and Tanya that zip up is so nice. My husband really likes the men's line at Express.

Sad face, Ana. You will be missed at your MIL’s festivities for sure. But you will be there in spirit – through the stylish bag and hubby’s heart. Where in the UK is Brendan from? I hope you get showered with attention while you’re alone.
