Christmas : Are Sweaters Weird In Summer?

So I'm from Auckland, New Zealand. Where it's about 25+ degrees c at the moment, seeing as it's summer.

I've never had snow at Christmas, or winter for that matter, but this year I'm going to visit my cousins - where it snows. Almost all year around.

So, logically, I was thinking of bringing my sweaters and long sleeves. Except, it's still technically summer, and it's generally still in the 15-20 degree range there except at night where it's reach anywhere from 10 to negative 1 c. I don't want to boil alive or look like a complete weirdo in oversized sweaters with everyone else chilling in tanks and shorts, but it seems almost too good an opportunity to pass up.

So... what do you think? Is it worth bringing it or not?

(Note that I'd have to wear it there. On the plane. Since it can't fit it my bag.)

I think id bring one even if its just to wear when it cools down in the evenings, i would not be comfy in a tank at -1c. And i usually get cold on a plane so it wouldnt bother me to travel with it...i usually travel with a big tote instead of a small handbag so i can just stuff it in there if its too warm in the airport.

I'd go by what you usually feel comfortable wearing in those temperatures -- do you wear sweaters in those temperatures when you're at home?

As far as looking weird among the people you're visiting, maybe one of your cousins can help you know better what they usually wear this time of year?

I'd certainly be wearing something more than tanks if it is 15-20 degrees!

And do you mean maximums of 15-20 degrees - because it is often only the around the max for a few hours a day.

Definitely talk to your cousins.

I would definitely take something warm. Hey even here (I am in the Waikato) I sometimes wear a merino or cardigan in summer in the evening or on the beach.

I have misjudged heading South before and was so freezing one time in October in Wellington that I had to borrow my Mother In Law's handknitted (and definitely unflattering) jersey.

I would definitely take some sweaters - you'll be wearing them in the morning and evenings, and probably some afternoons. I don't find 15 C that warm, then again, I live in Florida now (where people are wearing sweaters and boots in this month even though we've had record highs at 28-29 C). And when we visit Canada in the summer months, I always bring sweaters and a jean jacket to wear in the cooler temps. No one will look at you funny for wearing sweaters.

Do your have some cotton sweaters or a light wool or cashmere? A few years ago I was in Vail, Colorado in July for a week. Most of my photos show me wearing a heavy cotton pullover. Nice DKNY back in the day.

And, when we lived in Southern California, many times I lent sweaters and jackets to visitors who didn't realize ahead of time that after dark, when the marine layer rolled in, it could get chilly. And this was the middle of summer.

I had some chilly moments last Christmas, which I spent on the southern coast of Australia and was glad for long sleeve tops and jumpers. Personally I'd rather feel warm than be dressed the same as everyone else! (I went to a party on Friday night that was held outdoors and was so glad I'd brought a jacket because most of the the others were freezing in tee shirts)
