Chore jacket trend? - YouLookFab Forum

I didn't know this was a thing until I read this blog post:

I haven't found jean jackets super flattering for the last several years, and they have become orphans. I do like utility jackets when they hit me in the right place. So I was interested in this trend.

And it is cute. The length is cute on my short self, the pockets hit at a cute place, not a dumpy place. It is a little boxy from the back, but cute from the front. But.

1) It isn't white and red striped, it is really blush and red. It doesn't look right with white jeans, it looks off. I really needed it to be a third piece for white jeans. I need it to be a work horse, not a one trick pony.
2) for the price, I need this to look cute with more than denim bottoms, which is the only thing I can think to put with it. I can't think of any other way to style it, but I'm open to suggestions.

So I"m not saying no to this look, I'm just saying "not this particular jacket." Thoughts?

I like this style of coat, but agree that it's important to get the fit and color just right.

If you can't immediately think of at least 3 outfits it would go with or finish off, it's a pass for me.

Would you find better uses with a single color jacket vs a pattern?

This is one jacket I would have to see on you before I could say whether it works or not. I haven't seen any of these jackets in real life yet.

I’ve had a few chore jackets, from LLBean and Duluth Trading (both thrifted and new). I had to pass them along. I like an adjustable waist, otherwise I look like a giant block. I love stripes, and think blue and white would be useful if this shape works for you.

I have seen this type of jacket on a few bloggers. The stylist suggests wearing it with a body con dress and sneakers. That would be a cute look too. This is the kind of jacket that needs to be seen on.

This shape would be awful on me but if it works for you then it would be cute with jeans and dresses.

I love jackets like this. So much more interesting than plain denim jackets. I think that utility /cargo/chinos in olive would be a great pairing, white jeans, blue denim, a floral printed jean/cotton pant or dress, and of course shorts .....would all work with this. I really think pattern mixing will make this look.

I am going to give this particular jacket a pass. It might work better for me next fall, in a different fabrication. I'm not saying never, I'm just saying it is going to have to be just right!

I have a jacket that probably fits this description and I really only wear it as sort-of-gear (camping, photo exploring). It’s really not flattering on me as it’s quite shapeless. I think they can work, depending on the details and the outfit, but for me this style is not easy to make look good.

This trend has not been on my radar so thanks for sharing. I think the jacket you posted is super cute, fresh and a new look. I could see Angie rocking this look! I think my daughter would look cute in this too. Will keep my eye's out for more examples of this look. I like the idea of it a lot.
