My husband is purchasing me yarn for my birthday. I am just not sure design I want to knit. I want to purchase yarn soon enough to knit and wear the item yet this winter.

Some things I'm taking into mind... I wear mostly:
- blousey, chiffon, low-hip-length blouses
- vintage inspired midi dresses: three retro with flutter sleeves, one 70s style with chiffon bishop sleeves.
- jeggings
- one pair tailored slack-looking sweatpants. (Hoping to maybe add 1-2 pairs of tailored slacks this winter.)
- 2-3 band t-shirts, crew necked. I don't wear these much in the winter, though, so probably not a huge consideration, tbh.

I feel something belted or very retro/vintage could be very good on me with my current wardrobe. A belted cardigan will likely be the most versatile and work with both dresses and jeans. But I also know a waist-length cardigan with waist-line ribbing works beautifully for me too, mostly with my dresses.

I'm also staying open to the possibility I might need a waist length option and a belted option versus asking one sweater to do it all.

These are patterns I really love and own but haven't knit yet. I'll probably sit with all of these for a while. BUT I am open o your opinions and suggestions.

**Keep in mind, I will be using my own color palette, not necessarily what's pictured. So don't let color sway you. I'm also able to modify and tailor my knitting to fit my body.

1. ribbed wrap. This is not a cardigan, but can be thrown over anything I feel. The ribbing gives a ton of sizing flexibility. Would it look wonderful tossed over a longer chiffon blouse? Would the flutter sleeves bunch up too much underneath? Yes to all of these, likely.

2. vintage lace sweater with neck inserts. true vintage. I love this. The neckline cutouts would likely be good on me. It might be better as a separate sweater though?

3. kudzu, lace yoke. The lace is truly so beautiful. It's a basic shape/line, but the lace sets it apart.

4. color work yoke. This one is kind of fun and punchy. it's not top on my list yet? But I really love it.

5. vintage cardigan. another one I have long owned and adored. also vintage, as the photo shows. I know the lines and style would be truly beautiful on me.

6. belted kimono style cardigan. lots of wrap-ability. lots of cozy and cuddly. I think it would be terrific with everything I own.

7. textured cardigan. It has bobble circles on the front. Very cute with a retro vibe. Also another one long loved on my list. Possibly too cute/retro?

8. lace cardigan. More lace, what a surprise. Another simple one that lets the lace shine.

9. lace cardigan. More lace times three. This is more intricate with incredible tailoring using the ribbing on the sides. Another long owned, long "I want to knit this" design.

10. belted brioche cardigan. Fluffy. Cozy. Smooshy. It's like wrapping oneself in a sweet, milky coffee on a cold morning.

11. not a cardigan. It has gorgeous lace and tiny cables on the back, and a lower back hem, that gently curves to the front. I think this could work over the dresses if belted, for a maximal '70s look? Obviously would work fine over jeggings.

12. apricot delight. This might work with my dresses? Probably best with my jeans and slacks. Not sure the dropped shoulder plus boxy torso would be any good on me though; would probably need some body tailoring.

13. sun rays ribbing. Also vintage. Super gorgeous. Another one probably best with pants/jeans versus my dresses. But I adore it and think it would be terrific on me.

14. lace and stripes cardigan. vintage inspired. Meant to be worn with more ease, as modeled. I think this could also be very good. And truthfully, I almost knit it this fall but then chickened out due to choosing the colors that would fit the rest of my wardrobe.
