I thought maybe I would get myself a choker for Christmas, but I am kind of overwhelmed by the selection. I was just wondering if any fabbers have bought chokers. With what kinds of outfits do you wear them? How often do you wear them? Judging from photos online, it looks like people are wearing very simple chokers with everyday outfits, and more crystally ones with evening wear.

I'm also wondering if anyone feels like hair color plays a role in what type of choker to get. I have long dark hair, almost black, and I'm wondering if a black choker would get lost in all the hair, lol.

I purchased a crystal one and it ties with a bow using sheer grey ribbon. I wear it like I would a crystal necklace, which makes it any day wear, not formal. On formal occassions I am more likely to wear simple diamond stud earrings and a pearl necklace. My choker definitely complements my grey hair.

Sadly, I found out I no longer have the youthful skin tone in that area that makes a choker do-able. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, couldn't make things look right. So, from my point of view (yeah, from the wrong side of menopause!) - rock any and all chokers if you're able!! : (

I am a big fan of chokers ( I was a teenager in the 90's when they were all the rage), and am so happy they are back. I purchased quite a few this season. I wear the simpler ones with every day outfits, and the sparkly ones for special occasions. The AT pearl one is on its way to me and I plan to use it to dress up regular outfits.

I'm with Bennett -- it's one area of my body that gives away my age, so this is one trend I'm staying away from.

I think black with dark hair is an easy way to make them work. I'd keep the styles more simple and less sparkly for day. The examples Tanya posted are great.

I have two plain metal chokers from Jenny Bird - very simple and clean - one silver and one burnished gold. They layer well with other necklaces and are a great every-day look. But yeah, you have to watch for fit if the skin on your neck is at all aging. Too tight, and it's not a good look. (found that one out the hard way). I'm not personally into the dangling and tied Victorian look .

I' m with Bennett and Janet on not wanting to call attention to aging neck skin, but back when macrame chokers were popular, I wore them mostly on cool summer days. They felt oppressive on hot days but needed an open neckline of warm weather clothing. They were my first casual necklaces.v

Thanks for the input, everyone. I stopped by Nordstrom today, just for a few minutes, and was able to check out some of the chokers. I think I'll just order a few online and try them that way. They didn't have a whole lot of the styles I was looking for in-store.
