Chinos - do these have potential?

I've ordered these pants and another pair of shorts on sale last week and they arrived this morning. The shorts didn't work out at all, so I'm not showing them.

But what about these pants? They are definitely too big, but at the time this was the only size left and I wanted to try them, because sometimes this size works for me too.

Do you think they have potential? I'm not sure I desperately need another pair of pants, but I like the fabric and the style.

They have one size smaller again at the moment, only not with a 32er length (like the one pictured here) but 34. Although I could always hem them if required.

Do you think I should try the smaller size? Oh and please excuse my dishevelled look.

Definitely too big:). They look like denim. What color are they. Astrid I'm no sure. They look nice and I think the smaller size would make all the difference. Are they suppose to wear like a straight leg pant? In short yes I think they have potential, but chinos are not a personal favorite

Deborah, yes they are. They are a lightweight summer denim, dark blue. They look like straight legs on the model, so I think yes. Chinos aren't my favourite either, but with all the styles around I thought these were worth a try, because they are denim. The usual cotton stretch ones look almost always awful on me.

I am not terribly fond of them right now, especially with all the ripples on the back in the upper leg. Maybe a size smaller, but I worry about the 'carrot leg' effect that could visually give you a really big bum.
I do like the color!

Thanks Heleen. I won't keep these for sure. I get what you mean about "carrot leg", although I think that it isn't visible in the bigger size. When I look in the mirror my bum doesn't look bigger than in my other pants, a rarity for pants without back pockets.

I like the color a lot, but I'm not sure about the fit. I like the view from the back but not the front or the side. Could you get the waist taken in? That might make them more streamlined from all angles.

I definitely think they are too big... Sizing down could be good but not sure if the overall look would be worth paying extra for hemming if you aren't super sold on the chino/trouser look. Not much help huh?

I think they could work as "relaxed" if the bottoms weren't tapered. I don't think these are a 10 in this size.

Thanks Megan. I could, but these are too big allover, so they are definitely going back. I just have to decide if I want to try the smaller size or not.

Thanks Sarah. I would hem them myself, so I wouldn't have to pay extra.

Ugh, sorry Astrid but they look too big, but not big enough to be *slouchy cool*. They look like nice pants though, and I can see why you wanted to try them. Good luck finding another pair of pants (pants are SO hard, aren't they?)!

Astrid, these do not do you adorable figure justice. The fit just seems wrong - I would return and continue to look for something else.

Thanks Claire and Shannon. You're right, I would probably have to work to make the smaller size look alright too and it's not worth it. So, these will go back without an exchange.
