Chilly Dilemma!

Wooo! Now that it's getting cold, I can finally go coat shopping

I recently lost about 40lbs., and I'm trying to decide on a new winter coat! I've been eyeing this one from Kate Spade: http://www.katespade.com/agnes.....US,pd.html

But.. should I try for something more classic or neutral? What does everyone think?

Wow, 40 lbs is amazing. Congrats and you deserve a splurge on yourself? The coat is cute and a happy color. I guess my question is how does your pocketbook feel about it? If cost is not a factor and you plan to rock it all winter like a ray of light, then go for it. If cost is a factor, I would say go with something classic in a neutral color because you won't tire of it so fast. Branded clothing has very little consignment value. Bags, in contrast, hold value better.

Congrats on your weight loss! I agree with peacechick - go with what your budget says. If you can afford the splurge, grab it and show off. If not, then maybe go with something a bit more classic.

Or, if your budget is a little tighter, would you consider a jacket more like this?

As a person who is easily chilled, I noticed that the coat is quite short, and not very form-fitted, which means that cold air will be able to make its way up under the bottom of the coat. Is that OK for you? Also, would you feel comfortable wearing a distinctive coat to most places you'll be going? Or will it make you feel out of place?

The sleeves are bracelet length. Are you okay with that? And assume you would not be taking (dirty) public transportation if you are considering a light colored coat like that.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I'm not a coat person; in my climate I wear jackets or a lined trench. If I were to buy a coat, I most definitely would not buy black. Boring and depressing and not such a good color at my age. Maybe navy if it is a wonderful navy. But I think colors can be wonderful like Transcona Shannon's burgundy one. To me, burgundy can be a neutral. I must say my red trench was a bit much when I wore them with my bright red jeans, lol.

That's an amazing statement piece for sure ... but I wonder how warm it actually is? If you live in a place with real winter, I think I'd go for a basic everyday coat first.

I think you should get what you love, but of course there are budget limits (whatever yours are) and whether the coat is practical/warm enough for your winter (if not, do you have other, warmer coats for when it gets too cold for this one?). Also, the coat is very distinctive, so take into consideration whether you might get bored with it soon..

Is this your only coat or you already have more neutral coats? This coat would be fun to add to an existing coat wardrobe but I would not go for it as a single coat...

Totally agree with Sveta and was planning to say the same thing. If you are in a cold climate, you will likely have more than one coat and it would be a fun addition to a coat wardrobe. If you plan for this to be your primary coat, it may not be as practical as some other options.

It is very cute though.
