I have a serious sugar eye for chevron. It's in my top 10. Not as high as Ombre, but it's up there.
I have 2 contenders I would like your views on.

Number 1: chevron skirt from Zara. The chevron pattern is black, white and blue (love!) It is midi length, as shown in photo 1, but I would shorten it to just above the knee. It is fairly light weight and could be worn most of the year in my climate. Photo 1 is a change room photo - I would wear it this way in summer (but shortened). Photos 2-4 show a more winterised version that I tried at home. I have it pinned up here. My concern is that it is kind of puffy. It has pleats around the waist that cause it to puff out. It could be that shortening it will increase the puffy effect. My husband expressed concern about this when I showed it to him. To be fair, he has never seen me in a puffy skirt. He did not know me in the 80s My feeling is that it is ok, even though it is a slightly different look for me. I definitely want to shorten it if I keep it (I never like midi length A line skirts on me.) Keep?

Number 2: chevron top from Cue. I love this but the friends I was shopping with were very meh about it. So I passed. This is a small. I think I need a medium. It is very fitted, and statement-ish, so maybe not that versatile. On sale but not a knock 'em down drag 'em out type price. Pass?

PS. I soooo enjoyed the opportunity to put on my OTK boots. How I miss them!

I read before I scrolled down so I imagined horizontal chevrons. I absolutely LOVE the skirt!!! Yes! Yes! It's super fab! The top is too tight around your shoulders and arms and it looks like it's pulling. It is hard to know if it is too tight across your back also. A size up might be too large in the torso.

Oh, that skirt is wonderful and I like it on you. If you feel ok in it, I vote keep. It is slightly puffy, not too much. About the top I don't know what to say. It is very pretty but you do not sound very convinced about it, so maybe it is better to let it go.

I love the pattern of the skirt and I don't think it looks to puffy, it just has gathers so definitely not in the realm of 80's bubble skirts. Both your summer and winter versions are great (those boots are wonderful), so it will be very versatile.

I also like the Cue top very much. It would be good to see how a medium fits too, but this does not look too tight to me, just fitted. I really like this top with your denim skirt!

Like them both, but wow- the skirt is glorious-and it is not at all the common chevron type I was making faces at, just reading:-)).

I like the skirt. I say KEEP. The top is lovely too. Statementy - YES. But in a GOOD way. I can't imagine why your shopping buddies were only 'meh' about it....it looks sensational on you! And not *everything* in our wardrobe can be 'versatile', right?!

Can you tell I love chevron too??!!!

I would kind the top yo be the teensiest less fitted but still fitted, which is tough to find. but that's very personal choice.

I really like both! I can see that the top is pretty fitted and I don't mind that fit on you but if it actually feels too tight then try a size up definitely.

I like them both, agree that the top could be a little less fitted. I kind of like the skirt at the current length (which surprises me because I usually like skirts above the knee) but I think it would look nice shorter too.

I was indifferent to the skirt but then I saw the top and thought "wow" and "how would you style it"?

I like both pieces. I really like the vertical chevrons of the skirt and think the shorter length looks good on you. The top looks fun and I would like to see how a medium fits.

I really like the skirt and can see you wearing it.

The top, as you say, is too small, so it is tough to judge. I am not wild about it as is, but if you adored it perhaps it is worth trying in the right size?

I really like how the skirt is styled in #1, with the looser top and sandals. I don't like it *as much* with the OTKs. Do you think you need something sleeker with those boots (or maybe sleeker for the winter)?

Aside: Isn't chevron horizontal?

I really like the top. Not sure what your friends were seeing. The small looks good to me, but I'm sure you can tell better than I can.

I'm not in love with the top, but that skirt is great on you, especially at the shorter length.

I'm crazy for chevrons, too. But I haven't seen vertical chevrons, as far as I recall. The skirt is wonderful on you, a real statement piece. You could light up any room in it! I love it with the boots. The top looks too small and tight, and I think you were right to pass.

I love the skirt, I find monochrome pieces super easy to incorporate into a wardrobe too and suspect you will wear this a lot. Probably wearable for 9-10 months a year in Sydney, work and casual.

I almost love the top, but it is a wee bit snug, and maybe short. If sizing up I would think about what you would wear on the bottom - I can see it with A line skirts. I think it could become an orphan easily.

Sally, that's exactly my fear. I love the top but am worried it will become an orphan. I could see myself wearing it with A line skirts and high waisted wide leg pants. And that's it. I do have some similar knit tops from Zara (not chevron) that I have kept for years and still wear from time to time, but they are a teeny bit looser and longer. I think that makes them more wearable, as unfrumped says.
I will see if I can track down the medium to try on. But at this stage I am thinking I will pass.
The skirt is more versatile, I think.
Smittie, I would definitely prefer it to be more streamlined (or to have pockets!) but I don't think the pleats are a deal breaker. I have seen Diana on the forum wearing puffier skirts, and I like the look. What I like on others does not always look or feel right on me, but I would like to give it a try. The skirt is not expensive. I think I could also wear it with bare legs and taupe knee high boots in Spring/Autumn for a lighter look.
RobinF, I am sometimes attracted to the longer length A line skirts too but I inevitably end up not wearing them or shortening them. The denim skirt in the last pic is a case in point. It started out being below the knee but I have found it much more wearable since having it shortened.
Xtabay and Manny, glad it is not just me who is chevron crazy! In addition to clothing, I have chevron towels, chevron bathroom tiles, chevron mugs, chevron place mats. Total sugar eye. This is why I need the forum to guide me! But I know it's not for everyone. Lyn67, your comment made me laugh!
And Smittie. I like chevron all ways. Horizontal. Vertical. Even upside down

I love chevron! The skirt is absolutely a keeper. I like the top too, but in a bigger size, and I don't like it as much as the skirt. I don't see any poofing in the skit, either.

I like both very much on you. How great would that top look (in a size bigger) under a leather jacket? And, I don't even see puffiness around the waist of the skirt, so not sure what you're talking about - it looks very "you" to me.

I much prefer the top. It feels more modern to my eye. The the lines of the skirt aren't as appealing. Agree to size up on top. And yes, lots of potential in terms of layering under jackets. And just paired with beautiful black pants (and perhaps add a bold colored shoe).

I love graphic prints so all this appeals to me very much. I was most wowed by outfit #2!

How about a skirt like #1, only in a large, uncrowded floral on a black background, pared with top #2 (try it in a medium)?

The thing I am most impressed by, in your WIWs, is the fitness of your arms! That top in the small size seems to fit you exactly like the model's does, but your arms are killer! I think the defined muscles, along with the optical illusion created by all the stripe angles above the bustline, makes it seem to be strained there. Only trying on the bigger size would tell.

Otherwise, a great find for interesting pattern mixing!

Bennett, I like that suggestion about pattern mixing. I am actually on the hunt for an A line skirt in a floral print. There are a few around here but, because it's summer, they tend to be light or pastel mixes and not the black mixes you mention (which I prefer too). I am very into pattern mixing at the moment, so would definitely be willing to try it. Thanks for the comment about my arms!
I am trying to track down a medium of the top. My local store said they had it but it turns out that they don't. So it might take a little more detective work to find one. It is sold out online

Definitely keep the skirt. The outfit with the skirt looks perfect and I agree with you about length - in this case shorter is better.

I wouldn't keep the top. It looks interesting in the ad photo, but when I see it on you I think it's too busy and draws too much focus and attention away from your face. Too overwhelming in my opinion.
