Cheeky is freeky on me! Help!

I'm 5'9 with a 34 inch inseam broad shouldered (inverted triangle) with a larger bust, and very short waisted. Isabel posted a recent thread about her long torso (2 3/4 hand widths) that helped me realize how short waisted I am. I measure 1 1/2. Is this why I don't look right in cropped jackets, moto jackets and the like? Is it ever possible that I can wear a cheekier jacket or should I just stick with the longer jacket? hmm, I would guess that as an inverted triangle it would indeed be hard to wear a cropped jacket.... perhaps it could work if you paired it with a longer top underneath that was close in color?

Queenie-good suggestion! I'm contemplating the moto jacket, but hate to spend the $$ when I'm not sure it will ever look right on me. Maybe I'll take my camera to the dressing room so you can see what I'm taking about! Thanks

Hmm, I can barely fit 1 hand + a few fingers and I wear cropped "cheeky" jackets all the time. I don't like how longer jackets look. I am 5'2 though, so maybe that has something to do with it. As long as I have a longer layer underneath, I don't think it matters how long the jacket is.

I'm short waisted too. Have you tried a cropped jacket with a shirt peeking out underneath?

ALERT After checking myself out in the mirror, I have just 1 hand width from under breast to waistline, that may make a big difference....

Hmm, it might have something to do with inverted triangles because I love how cropped (not too cropped) jackets look on me. I am short (5'1""), short waisted (1 hand and 2 fingers) but I'm an hourglass/pear with a strong shoulder line.

How cropped are we talking, exactly? I don't feel comfortable in like, bolero length tops (though that is mostly the result of bust size rather than waist length). But something that hits at or above the hips is fine.

I'm a rectangle with inverted-triangle tendencies, also short waisted. I wear cropped jackets and I think it works for me.

Hi Carole! I feel that I am short waisted and I also like cropped jackets/cardigans. I'm also an inverted triangle. Like many of the others, I like to wear the cropped layer with a longer layer underneath. I keep the cropped layer a darker color than the longer layer so that the eye follows the length of the longer layer, thus making my torso appear longer. Here are a couple of examples:

I haven't tried a bolero style so I'm not sure if you mean something that short.

So try a longer layer under and see if that looks better for you. Post some pics and we'll help you out! : )

Thanks, Vani, Maya, Medusa and AJ. I'm not referring to the bolero style, I would never dream of attempting that, it is hip length or shorter jacket that seems disproportionate on me. The pictures you posted AJ are darling and I like how you have styled your jackets with the longer layers, you look very petite and that is the opposite of me..I tend to feel like the cropped style makes me look extra large on top and all butt and legs if that makes sense. I'm hoping Angie will help me out here and let me know if this should work in theory or not...

I am also an inverted triangle with a short waist and I wear cropped jackets & cardigans all the time! There is definitely a sweet spot though and if I get any shorter than a certain length, it tends to make me look bulky. Like the others, I go for a longer top underneath and that helps. The proportions of the longer top to the shorter jacket/cardi are important. You might try experimenting with different lengths to figure out your own sweet spot.

I wanted to add that when it comes to cropped cardigans, I have found that v-necks work better than crew necks. Something about the shorter length plus all the coverage up top doesn't seem to work as well at least in my experience.

Carole, I'm in the same boat - very short waisted and large busted too (though I have large hips as well so am more of an hourglass.) I wear moto jackets frequently. Due to my proportions, slightly cropped jackets appear longer on me than they would on a long or "normal"-waisted gal, so I aim for the bottom of the jacket to hit somewhere near the top of my hips.

Shana and Kari/ Thanks that really helps me visualize what you are talking about...I also find V-necks look much better than crew necks in all tops and jackets. I will look for one that hits at the hip and not higher..I found this moto jacket and think that it might fit the bill, what do you think?

I think the fact that it has a collar helps and it appears to not be too short...am I on the right track?
