Check/Plaid Trousers - what should I wear with these? Help!

These just arrived today (River Island - Cigarette Pants). I was torn between them being too much like golfing trousers and actually loving them. The colours are very spring like and they fit well.

However, I'm at a bit of a loss as to whether they are 'too much' and would be hard to style. Can anyone give their opinions/suggestions for what I should pair with them? Especially in terms of what kind of shoes/boots I should try with them.

I would be most grateful for any advice. Although I think they go fabulously with the new duck egg blue leather jacket I got from River Island at the same time (on 20% discount!!). See 2nd pic.

Wow, those are out there but so cool if you can wear them-- the colors are great. And the jacket!
You didn't say what occasions/ venues. Since I go for flat or low heels I would wear a modern loafer or a pointy-ish flat; some people might do a higher- heeled pump or dressier shoe becausevit would look good to juxtapose the more feminine footwear with these pants. . Oxfords would work with the pant style, but with the plaid but you'd have perhaps too much golf course vibe.
I would focus on the right color. It's a multicolor plaid so forvsore there sre lots of colors that would " go", but if the lighter band is at the hem, I'd try to match that color intensity and use a nude or dark cream or similar for leg line and to non- compete.

Love those pants and love the jacket even more! I am actually going to PM you about the jacket as I am considering getting it myself.

I think you have a lot of freedom when it comes to styling those pants. Barious white tops/knits, denim skirts, navy or blue white shirts or knits etc.
In terms of shoes all sorts of flats - loafers, slipper flats, or booties, particulrly in white/cream shades to echo the white of the pants.

Angie has had a couple of outfits posted with a par of fabulous yellow tartan pants, so maybe look at those for inspiration:
1. Here with white top, denim jacket and white sneakers, which should work great with your pants as well
2. Here with denim shirt, black moto and flat oxfords. For your pants I might go with navy/grey moto.
3. Here with black turtleneck, moto and light booties. Again, I would substitute the blacks for navy.

Wow I love both pieces and I don't think they're too "out there " at all. Tanya has given you some great ideas. I'd like to see them with a simple, plain black or white top, with black, white or metallic shoes.

Thanks all for the input. I now have much food for thought. I've been inspired to have a look through my spring clothes as I'm sure I have loads to go with the trousers and jacket.

Angie, I've just tried them on to check the length and have posted pics below of them on me. I am still undecided as to whether they're veering into PJ territory or not! But they are growing on me.

PS the jacket is very similar to the one in your ensemble post today but mine is from River island and I think your one may be Miss Selfridge. Not much difference between the two styles though. Both are gorgeous styles and colours.

swoon over the jacket. Love to see a photo of you in it, as I'm looking for a lighter colored jacket too. Is there any green in the blue?

I second missvee and would wear shoes that look good with the length of the pants.

I love the check and fit of the pants. I'd love to see them a dash shorter though.

Wear them with white or dark neutrals on top to offset the pajama effect. xo

Welcome to the world of plaid bottoms! I have a couple of tartan pairs and I love them and have worn a black top with both as well as white (tuxedo shirt and loose knit top).

I think pointy-toed, heeled, etc footwear - things that are clearly dressy and not comfort wear - would also help keep them from looking like PJs. Much how you styled the buggy pants, actually! Maybe the silver booties could work?
I like Angie's neutral idea. If you go too casual matchy-matchy it might look a bit like a tshirt PJ set or Lands End preppy separates IYKWIM. For example they should technically "go" with the ombré pink shirt but I think the overall effect is maybe a bit too relaxed/cute. Moto is a bit more unexpected which is good. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
