Checking in on the Deep Freeze

I saw that temperatures are ABOVE freezing in NY and Boston - last week and this week. Sounds like the BIG THAW is happening. I'm sure you're welcoming the warmer temperatures, which relieves me as much as you.

Not quite behind us up here, Angie -- we did not go above freezing yet where I am -- but in the sun there is some melting happening. Roads disgusting slushy now but oh, how lovely to put on a wool coat for a change!!

They say that this week is going to be (relatively) warmer throughout. Crossing fingers that this is true.

Fingers crossed! This week is really the first true above-freezing week in a while - it did hit 32ºF in Boston last week but was down in the 20's at night, which just means lots of nasty black ice.

It definitely suddenly feels like spring here, the piles of dirty snow notwithstanding. Don't know if it's daylight savings (seriously, this is the first time I can remember that I have been happy about losing that hour) or what, but I suddenly feel like coming out of hibernation.

Here's a picture I took at the bus stop this morning. Note the spring footwear next to the snow (which is MUCH smaller than it used to be).

HOPE SO, Suz. I can't imagine your longing for Spring. I'd be climbing the walls.

But soon you'll be in warm weather anyway - happy packing and much love.

btw, unseasonably warm temps this side - sunny 14 to 17 day time highs. It has been blissful over the last few weeks. Could leave my coat off during the day. Leather jacket was fine. Cold at night though.

The last couple days here in Michigan have been a gift from the weather gods. Temperatures up to 40°F; ( this is 50° warmer than the recent -10°); sunshine, puddles of water from melting snow. People are joking about putting on swimsuits and going out to sunbathe. What a lift to the spirits! Even my dog looked happier.

It was in the high 50's in the DC area yesterday. My son and took a bike ride along the Potomac River and into DC and the trail was crawling with walkers, runners and bikers - total spring fever! The sun was warm - actually warm - on our faces. We still have a lot of snow melt to go, but it was so wonderful to be outside.

Ours might be. Here's hoping! We got 7" of snow 3 days ago and today feels like spring! It was above freezing when I got up this morning! And suppose to go up as high as 48 today!

The next 2 weeks are supposed to be at or just above freeing (in Toronto.) Winter coats and boots still de rigeur. 2 weeks of vacay coming up, including 1 week in a warm place. I'm hoping to stow the boots and wool coat by Easter.

Interesting news!
I'm with Deb. Am longing for days when the max is less than than 30 (86 F) and the min goes down to 16 (60 F) or lower and my house doesn't heat up so much over the day that I have to wear my "hot summer" clothes in the evening (even with 4 outfits in that capsule now, I ran out recently)

I echo Deborah and Anne in wishing you some of our heat. I have been hot and sticky all day and the humidity is yuk. I have 'hot summer' and 'warm summer' clothes and I am sick to death of 'hot summer' and keen to wear something other than a cotton blouse and skirt/shorts.

I do remember just how loooong the winters in Canada are and how pleasant that first warm spring breeze felt.

I'm in Ottawa this week and left my non-puffer coat unbuttoned for a short walk. I won't be putting the boots away yet but there is a feeling of hope.

Hi Angie, the last two days have been so great...except for the immense slush from some of the melting snow. : ) Though I hear that we are plunging back into the deep freeze again. I took your advice and bought some fun lipstick colors. That has really made me feel uplifted and excited that Spring is coming. What a seemingly small thing with great impact .

We were actually in the upper 40's today! Woot woot! But we're not out of the woods yet. Cold temps and more snow are headed our way this weekend. We have had snow for the last 6 or 7 weekends in a row

I'm with Dimity, Would love to wear my 'warm summer clothes" not the "hot summer ones". You know, like wearing anything with sleeves (not just long sleeve, any sleeves), collar, a waistband, an underlayer length longer than the knee or made of denim!

(I do for work of course, I am talking about when I am not in AC)

It is warming up here in Allentown PA too ! Today is supposed to be a high of 60 degrees which would be simply lovely. Although I don't think the temps will stay this warm it is such a welcome break from the snow and cold. Hopefully it will go a long way to melting the mountains of snow and let us start to see some green grass

Here, a little more northern than Suz, I walked the dog without scarf, mitts and hat! I actually saw someone in shorts yesterday and howled with laughter. Keep in mind we have loads of snow and not a green blade of anything to be seen.

The northern midwest is alive with the sounds of warmer weather and melting snow...I am just amazed at how the change in the weather has affected the temperament of people...everyone seems happier, more open and a silent relief that the worse February on record for cold weather is behind us..I have to laugh at the shorts and coolers coming out soon...real soon...

Northern VA is seasonally challenged. Last week 5 degrees F and 8 inches of snow. Today 65 F and sunny. Hard to dress for sure, but no unhappy it's above single digits.

BIG MELT has started here and I cannot be more happy! We have above freezing temps since last weekend and A LOT of bright and hot sun during the day. I bravely put away my puffers and winter boots for this week :-0
