Thanks FI. Teal and brown are great together but I wonder if the fabric of the top (looks like a lightweight linen or cotton?) will be too light for the skinnies (looks like velvet or corduroy?) I think the sweater would be a better bet with the pants. As you know, I’m right into analogous colour schemes so I like to pair teal with dark green in particular but also blue. Do you have denim shorts or cropped jeans you could wear with the top?

Love the belt.

Thanks! I appreciate the suggestions. If I wear it with shorts, they’d have to be longer than I have on in these pix, or they disappear. The pants are cotton, but with a jacquard-type pattern. You’re probably right about seasonality. I’m just now figuring that out about the top—it’s too long for lots of my shorts, but very thin, so needs to be worn with high summer bottoms.

ETA I corrected the link.

I hereby crown you Queen D.I.Y

All hail Queen Teal! Thought it was just me that painted accessories with nail polish to make them the exact colour I prefer (most commonly to change silver fixings/ hardware into gold)

I bought this necklace in Brazil - people usually think it's wood when they see the pattern, but it's actually made from coconut Not sure if it counts as teal or dark green, but it's a pseudo-neutral for me, so it's my go-to travel necklace (because there's no metal closure).

Shibori is all about the prep. I was in a fiber group, mostly spinners and weavers. One of the members was a shibori artist, and she did a demo for us one time. The sewing and tying could take quite awhile, but then the dyeing would be like tie dye. Tie dye could be simple, and shibori could be very complex. I’d like to try it anyway.

Re dip dye: I don’t know how they do it. I think if your piece is attached to a dowel, then the dowel could lowered over the dye pot, and maybe with a little structure that could hold the dowel at different levels. No way I could hold it steady for any length of time.

ETA: if you were to use actual indigo dye, not only do you have to prepare your fabric with a mordant (a dye fixative), but to get deeper color, it’s not the amount of time the fabric is in the dye, but the times in the dye, plus being out in the air.

I chase it a bit too! I need to rifle around and pull mine all out. Here’s a few items I have though.

Your collection is impressive! Love it all.

Wow, you look amazing in teal and you have such a gorgeous collection of items. I love the others that people have posted, too. It's such a rich and moody and elegant colour.

So. Much. Gorgeousness.
I’m too awed to say anything more coherent!

I love, love teal, it is one of my favorite colors! It is also one of those colors that looks good both on people who suit warm tones better, like you, and cool tones, like me. Your teal collection is stunning, I want to run away with half of it.
One my favorite color combos is a shade of purple with a shade of teal. I have plenty of purple in my wardrobe at this point, but not so much teal. My collection is below. I go through phases when I focus on it more, and I have just entered another one of those, so am looking for more teal. I would especially like some work/day dresses, tops and footwear, and a single skirt and leather handbag (with silver hardware).
I am currently stalking the Veronica Beard jeans and leather blazer I have attached. There is a good chance of success with the jeans, however the blazer is very pricey and I not sure if it will ever reach down my price range. My most recent teal purchase was also VB, a suit that I did find on very heavy discount.

Happy teal hunting!

Some lovely teal finds in this thread!

Your pieces are stunning Brooklyn and I am pleased you have chased down, captured, altered and kept this teal safely......

Your DIY talents (and your husband's too) are enviable - and this is just the artistic icing on the cake!!

Here are my teal pieces below. Or teal adjacent.

The floral dress is yet to be worn as is the short sleeve blouse. The coat is a bit out of favour at the moment, it is a bit too retro for me and I am pondering if I will go back to it.

I definitely associate teal (and burgundy) with you and the eye candy on this thread is fantastic. I don't have much teal in my wardrobe. Why not? I will stare at this thread and try to manifest something at the thrift store .

Your teal items are so gorgeous. I have liked it a long time in small doses. Pic 3 is of a bag I bought in 1979 when I was 18.
I have an inherited jumper from Mum shown pic 5 with a mix of blue and green I like. And of course the teal duster in pic 4. Don’t kill me that I got tired of the shoes and gave them away last year after owning for about 7 years. The new Minx boots from last year have a subtle hint?

Thanks Jenni, nice! And the Minx boots count! I would wear them

Shevia, thanks. Happy thrifting! But teal is quality stock tightly held. You might have to be patient.

Sally, catch and keep is right (see above). Have you thought about switching out the buttons on the coat? And playing around with the neckline? I could see it being made into more of a funnel neck. I’m not saying that would be preferable but it might be worth playing around with it too see if it has any possibilities that you like better.

Tanya, what a scrumptious set of teal items. And velvet jeans! I should have put that on my shopping list. I have that BR sleeveless top too. Do you still wear yours? I’m toying with the idea of trying to alter the back so that’s it’s not so dramatically high-low. I really love it but I’d like to make it more classic now.

Ryce and Suz, thank you!

Jenna, send me the ombré scarf right away!

JAileen, I do my dyeing in the washing machine, so I’m not real keen on the labour intensive methods. I’ve watched some YouTube videos on dip dyeing and it looks very labour intensive. But I figure I might be able to do shibori in the machine. If I try it and get a half decent result, I’ll report back.

Zaeobi, resin is clear so hubs uses the teal nail polish to colour it. The ring was broken (stone fell out) so he made a new “stone” from mixing resin and teal nail polish. He’s pretty handy I’ve never thought of using it to change the colour of hardware, so thanks for that tip! Great necklace.

Angie, I refer to DH as a master of improvisation. He can fix or make anything. I’m very happy to be his Queen D.I.Y.

Brooklyn, thank you! I think you would look lovely in teal velvet jeans.
I haven’t worn the BR sweater top for a couple of years, but now that sweater vests are tending again I am planning to wear it in the fall as a vest (over looser/longer shirts), possibly on its own too. I have been also pondering the high-low hemline, if it is looking a bit dated or if it is fine as anything goes these days. I haven’t reached a conclusion yet, wondering what you think. Also, is an alteration even possible considering it is a sweater knit?

I’m noticing that it seems there is more teal available in either professional looking workwear, dressy items, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, workout wear. I have tried to find a great simple teal tee, to no avail. I did order a sale long-sleeve boatneck from Boden — we’ll see when it arrives, just in time for it to be too warm to wear it!

JAileen has much more real and serious dyeing experience than I do, but remembering the fun my son and I had with a couple tubs of different color dyes, a fence to hang shirts on & the Texas sun to help them dry quickly, I will suggest that if you have little people over, you could set up a corner of the lawn for some fun experimentation with them, while periodically tending to hour own project off to the side.

Tanya, same on the vest! I would like to wear mine too. I tried it the other day and it’s still in great condition. But I’d much prefer a regular hemline. It would make it more timeless, IYKWIM. I was thinking about doing an alteration by hand to the back, using the seam line above the hem to disguise it. It won’t look perfect, but because it’s at the back I think I might get away with it. If I do it, I will post. Risky! Or I might just wear it as it is

Janet, teal tees are hard to find. I got a cotton one (yes cotton!) from Lululemon fairly recently. I’m not sure if we get the same range as you but here is a pic. It’s a blue teal too. I’m sure you’d like it.

FI, sounds like fun.

Please post if you end up doing that project! Curious how it will turn out. I don’t have you wonderful skills, so I will just wear mine as is when the weather permits.

Thanks Tanya. I wish I could be so sure of my skills. One thing is for sure - the moment I take my scissors to it, high-low hemlines will make a huge comeback

Oh wow! Such drool-worthy teal pieces here!! I find the deep petrol shades that I love are much harder to come by than the lighter turquoise. I tend to hoard pieces in deep teal when I find them.

I had to purge some teal things this year (including a narrow chiffon scarf that became a staple during pandemic hair times that snagged on a zipper. ). My collection is mostly tops and accessories, and I would love to find those sandals of yours!! I think we have the same ribbed H&M top - it is a major workhorse for me in spring and fall.

Other favorite pieces are a cashmere turtleneck sweater and some scarves- a small one for warmer weather and three big ones for cold. Two of the winter scarves may not count - the teal is woven in with other colors, but it stands out when you see the full scarf. Oh, and of course, my gorgeous masks from Carla!

My collection is here:

Janet: Thanks for the tip on the Boden tee. I found casual light teal tees from Karen Scott at Macy’s. It’s their preppy house brand, so wade past the polos.

Gorgeous teal inspiration! A HEWI is a teal bikini or bathing suit. It is the best colour on all kinds of skin tones - but hard to find.

Brooklyn, it’s yours.

Oh, speaking of ombré, it’s not teal but I just ordered a citron/lavender-y/lilac ombré bag!
Squeee!

Jenna, thanks That bag sounds fab. I have one ombré bag. I’d love to have more.

RC and Cat2, happy hunting!

NM, I knew you’d have a great collection! One of the attractions of teal for me is that it works so well with forest green (another favourite). I’m sure you agree. I think the teal slides are still available at Free People. Just be aware that they are not for serious walking. As many of the reviewers mention, they have a tendency to slip to the side the longer you walk in them. I kept them because I adore them so much. But I only wear them entertaining at home or out when I’m not expecting to be doing a lot of walking.

Hey Brooklyn I was on Styletread today and had a look for you for fun. These lace-up boots are called Murky Blue colour but they look kind of teal to me?
https://www.styletread.co.nz/m.....ather.html

Ooh nice Jenni! Yes, I would call those teal. But my size is sold out. See how popular teal is? I would prefer a lower heel, so it’s lucky my size is not available because otherwise I might be tempted

I have in mind something like this. But in teal not green.

I will store it next to my teal ombré jacket
