I was thinking about my Mom's amazing charm bracelet and wondering if they are so retro as to be wearable again. I've got a bunch of small charms/pendants from my travels over the years and it would be fun to put them together into something I'd use. I'm not all that attracted to the Pandora style, more the old school dangly, sweater-snagging, jingly mess.

Are they hopelessly passé or is there a way to update this classic, like Angie's pearls?

I love my charm bracelets. This is a good year to get them out: The Year of Maximalism! I think tho doing the whole ladies-who-lunch bit might be passé... but it would still look good... silky button down and pencil skirt...

I love charm bracelets. I don't know if they're in fashion or not. They are kind of maximal, though.

I was forced to go to Celtic festivals when my son played in a pipe band. I started buying charms at the festivals. My bracelet is all garden charms. It has meaning to me because I was a master gardener. I used to wear it all the time. It can catch on things, and it jingles a lot, too. I don't care. The charms are just so cute!

Agreeing with Angie that charm bracelets are timeless and totally fabulous. The personal aspect of these bracelets make them even more special and beautiful. Your bracelet could be a way to carry those wonderful travel memories with you wherever you go.

Given the ubiquity of Pandora and similar, I recently concluded that charm bracelets are back on trend.

Great question! I have my charm bracelet that my sister in law gave me for being her flower girl when I was 8. It has a flower girl charm along with several others I got when I was young. Perhaps I should add a few new ones and start wearing it again. We lost my SIL to cancer several years ago. It has great sentimental value.

torontogirl - I just found out my sister has my mother's but doesn't wear it. I'm glad for her anyway, she'll pass it on to her son's family some day.

I haven worn my silver charm bracelet in years. I got it as a birthday present when I was about 10 years old and I started collecting the charms after that. Each charm has sentimental value. I will dig it out when I get home.

I also have a gold bracelet without any charms. My mother gave it to me when I graduated with my Masters degree. I never started collecting charms for it. Now is a good time to start.

I'm in the same space as you StyleFan - have one I got when I was 10 or 11, with lots of sentimental and travel charms collected over a few years. Like a removable tattoo I may dig it out as I love and always wear bracelets, tho I'm not really maximal. Thanks for the inspiration.

Ah yes, I think they are classic. Mine has charms marking the birth of each of my children, my marriage, a milestone birthday, my son's college, and other memories. I hope someday to inherit my mother's, which has charms marking her first airplane trip, a transatlantic boat trip, and other charms symbolizing major life moments.

Charm bracelets are not out! Try to buy a vintage one, and you'll see how popular they are. I adore them--my mother's gold charm bracelet was her signature piece, and we all contributed charms to it (even my little sister, who rushed home to tell me one day near Christmas that Woolworth's was selling gold charms "and they're only 59 cents!" Her little gold plastic heart went right on with all the 14k trinkets.) I wear more silver, so I started a sterling charm bracelet for myself a year ago. Whenever I travel, I look for a charm to bring home, often a little medal or toy not originally intended for a bracelet. Can't wait for it to become overstuffed and yes, a sweater-snagging jingly mess!

I love charm bracelets. It's a great idea to get yours out and wear it. I have a couple of Pandora bracelets and just recently got an Alex and Ani bracelet but I would love to start a regular charm bracelet like you all are sharing. Gorgeous and so unique and individual. Plus, I love the jingle jangle sound!
