This may be OT, since it is about men's/young men's clothing. My DS14 has an 8th grade promotion to attend, and although the dress code is simply "Not Casual" (they don't want the kids to wear jeans or sweats), DS14 would like to wear a jacket. Truthfully, he wanted to rent a tux, but we thought that might be a bit overboard!

Anyway, I found a charcoal suit jacket for a steal and it fits him well (teeny bit bit in the body, though a slim might be too snug), except there are not matching pants. Although a light grey could be paired with navy or black pants with ease, I worry that a charcoal jacket with black pants might look like he got dressed in the dark - much the way many people used to view a woman wearing black and navy.

So is there a way that the shirt and tie could ease the transition, or is there anything else to pair with charcoal? It is unlikely that lighter pants would work (like a lighter grey, and khaki would be a warm with a cool which would be difficult, too). Or do I just return the jacket and bite the bullet and buy him a suit that likely won't fit within 6 months?

DH seems to think black pants will be fine, but he isn't exactly a suit wearing guy, so I'd rather ask here!
