Changed my earrings finally - YouLookFab Forum

As some may recall, I had my earlobes pierced for the first time right before New Years. It's been 12 weeks. They were still a bit sore, and I couldn't for the life of me get the barbells out. They were tiny and I kept accidentally pinching myself. So, we trekked back to the piercing shop and my fab piercer took them out. Now I'm wearing my new Anna Beck lapis and gold earrings. I have a matching ring to these so I'm very happy to finally get to wear them! My first real pair!

I have to practice pulling the barbell apart so I can take them out myself next time. I still need to wear them at night, etc.

What do you think? Next I plan to get some white gold hoops. What else do you think I need for a basic earring wardrobe? What is your favorite everyday pair?

Beautiful and fun new earrings! Honestly, with my hair long, I tend not to wear earrings. When I do wear them, I have a pair of pearl studs and a pair of diamond studs I tend to prefer.

Gold hoops. Classic, and just an easy choice with just about anything. My fave pair are a bit wide, and in fact, they're not real gold! That way I don't fret about losing one.

Your lapis earrings are lovely! Take a stroll around Blue Nile's website. I personally like their gemstone studs, especially if it's one's birthstone. And I second the hoop suggestion, though you'd want white gold.

Those are gorgeous Jenava! Gold hoops, diamond (or faux diamond) studs, a pair of elegant drop earrings would all be great additions you would get much wear out of.

Those are so pretty on you, Jeneva.

I mostly wear silver earrings -- small studs shaped like apostrophes or commas, or small thick hoops, or studs like enoki mushrooms. But I have quite a variety of different ones for different outfits and moods. Mostly I have a favourite for a year or two and then move on to another.

They are lovely Jenava. I have quite a collection and I tend to wear the same pair for ages, then rediscover another pair, do the same and so on.

My fave pair at the moment are large silver drops.

If I didn't have messed-up earlobes from a bad piercing job, I would be wearing statement earrings and then simple studs, any kind, on a daily basis. I used to have a pair of jade studs that were so comfortable I slept in them.

I love small hoops in the "huggie" style because they never come off accidentally. I have them in white and yellow gold. I picked the one below to show you not because of the emeralds but because the pic shows what huggies look like.

Great suggestions for the other posters. Just don't get anything too heavy or the hole will enlarge. Not a good look!

Another vote for the "Huggies" style. The fact that they don't have a post to dig into your neck if you fall asleep or talk on the phone is a plus. Also I just like the way they look. Besides that the bigger hoops like you plan to get and also some tiny studs in your favorite metal or diamond. Pearl studs are fab too. I love the earrings you are wearing too!

Those earrings are beautiful! It's amazing the messages that different earrings send, style-wise. I'm sure you are noticing everyone's earrings around you now that you have your ears pierced. I read in a style book once that "everyone looks good in golf-ball sized hoops" so I got a pair of those in silver. I read one of Nina Garcia's books and she goes on and on about hoop earrings and how they have to be super-thin to be sexy and big, but not so big as to fall into hoochie-mama territory, lol! She says a thick hoop is a sign of a stodgy person--can't remember how she put it exactly-- (of course mine a thicker from the side because I wanted them to be sturdy). Oh well! I tried a pair of larger, thinner ones, but they bent out of shape quickly and I kept getting my hairbrush and other things caught in them and pulling at my holes. Ouch! Also larger ones make trying on clothes when shopping a bit dicey.

My faves are dangle-y with fishhooks so they are easy off and on, and not too heavy. If your ears can tolerate cheap earrings, it might be a good idea to experiment with an inexpensive pair first to see if you like the style before buying it in real silver or gold. Or alternatively, buy from a jeweler or store that will let you return or exchange them. It's hard to know what you will like or what will bother you about a pair until you've road tested them.

I'm amazed that you are comfortable wearing big earrings so soon after getting your ears pierced!

(My piercings have always been so darn picky. It took me a year til I felt comfortable in dangles, and I went through two failed piercings before I discovered my nickel allergy.)
