Chambray Shirt

I am on the hunt for a "perfect" chambray shirt. Long enough to wear out but not too long so I can tuck into a skirt if I choose too. Feel like I am in the 3 Bears story...some too long, some too short BUT none just right. I think the problem is I am between an XL and XXL..Love the JCrew everyday chambray shirt https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens.....hirt/G8058

Tried it on in store in a 14, knowing I would need a 16 and the 14 seemed so short..so ordered a size 16 Tall and it is still too short and the sleeves too long so another return in my future. Looked on line at Loft and A. Taylor and Nordstroms but didn't see a basic button down similar to the JCrew one.

Any suggestions for this elusive wardrobe staple?

Not sure of where it hits on the hips, though. I bought one from Uniqlo last year that I like, but I see they're no longer selling it. Good luck!

I have one like this from Old Navy in a slightly lighter wash from last year. It comes in Reg, Petite and Tall and has bust darts, which I really appreciate. I can wear the Petite (I'm 5'2", short waisted" tucked or untucked.

Gap, as Susan mentioned, or Lands End, Eddie Bauer, or LL Bean for traditional styles and less fitted cuts. I've had pretty good luck with the length of Gap shirts (I'm 5'8-ish).

Or you could try men's shirts. I like them cause I can get butt coverage, and I don't mind rolling up the sleeves or turning back the cuffs.

Or maybe a western-style vendor like Sheplers?

It's rough when you are sorta in-between sizing. I was 0X for a long time and it was a no-man's land of fashion. Have you considered Ralph Lauren? I always had good luck with his shirts and had several. (No current recommendation, but there are a couple of denim shirts on the website and a chambray one that, I suspect, would look better if ironed.) http://www.ralphlauren.com/pro.....38;ab=tn_w

Why not do a google search for "chambray tunic"? Just did that a pulled up quite a few options. If they're too long, it would be simple to have them shortened to your ideal length. (you might also search for denim shirts, as the J Crew shirt you linked to looks more like what I consider a light-wash denim.)

I know how you feel...I'd been looking for this for awhile, too. I found one I like at Chicos, which is generally a "bad word" on this forum. Their sizes run extremely generous, so you might try one one there if you have one near you. However the one I got is tencel, not a true chambray. I also recently saw a good selection at Target, with their new fall stuff. Good luck...this acquisition can take a while, and I'm not sure if the one I got fits the 3 bears descriptor because it's still too hot here to wear it!

Thank you everyone for such helpful suggestions. I really like the Gap one and wonder I could wear the XL without the buttons gapping in the bust area? Might be worth a try to order...our local Gap closed several years ago along with A. Taylor. I looked at the Chicos site (I know...bad word..I am not a huge fan but leave no stone unturned correct?) and didn't see anything. Have not been pleased last few years with Talbots so not even looking there. Have several O. Navy ones and those are the 1 too big, 1 too small and now the JCrew too short...Can ck. Target...did not see any at our store but perhaps on line IF I can find it on line, their website is not easy to navigate.

I have the J Crew factory shirt in the darker wash. I can tuck it into pants which I like and it looks good left untucked. It does not cover my bottom.

I bought the Old Navy shirt in XL and it has a lovely colour. The tail covers the bottom but is a bit higher in front. I bough it to use with my skirted leggings from Joseph Ribkoff.
