Elizabeth P and Lisa P, I would LOVE to edit with you too! My toes are tickled thinking about it. GIDDY. I love a good edit!

No mess when you edit with me - two pairs of hands make lighter work, which helps One section at a time. YES TO FITTING IT ALL ON AGAIN unless you've done so very recently and know how the item fits, and how it makes you feel. As you've tried things on - I hang things back up right away. Sometimes we work with a rolling rack. I make the piles, and pack things away AND neaten and organize your closet. The results are liberating.

This is my life right now!
Actually my danger is in overbuying. I need a few pieces to tide me over, but now am at the point where I should stop & hold, except for a couple pairs of shoes.

Mirjana, can I clone you?

RunCarla, lucky hubs. Now it's your turn, and I want to hear all about your style shift. Lets thrash that out!

Christina, NICE. Love how you're using Finds to help you edit. Brilliant.

FashIntern, stopping and holding is wise for now. Regroup. Road test.

I did a major editing when I got home from my trip mid August. I gave ten bags of clothing, shoes, and bags to the Salvation Army. We put our house on the market the last week in Sept., so it was a good time to declutter. I know I didn't give away anything that I'll regret, because I've been tracking wears for almost three years. I'll probably have to reedit after we move because the climate will be very different from where we now live.

I’ve just done one major closet and drawer edit as we are preparing for a move and a downsize to a smaller place. Next up is a lifestyle edit, as I retired this week. Not quite ready to let go of some beautiful professional and career type pieces, so I want to take some time with those. But the initial edit was a good process...I just don’t think I’m done yet! Still haven’t honed in on what my style will be moving forward. This is a big change and I seem to be living in comfy gear as we clean and purge. Could be a dangerous habit. Fortunately my new closet is spacious, so I have the luxury of time to figure things out.

I'm in. I haven't done this with my fall/winter items yet so it's good timing for me!

Ooh fun! I recently did a major inventory edit, inspired by your posts, Angie. I am cheering from the sidelines this time!

I really want to participate but am not sure if it’s the right time. At 14w postpartum and exclusively breastfeeding, my body is stubbornly clinging to an extra 12lb. Due to body changes, extra weight, and BFing/pumping, I’m not wearing 90% of my wardrobe. SO and I are hoping for additional LOs, and if that happens, I could be stuck with the extra weight for a few years. We don’t have much space, and as much as I love some of my pieces, they aren’t practical items for feeding. They weren’t cheap, but they’re also not the most parent-friendly colours and materials, either. Thoughts?

I’m going to watch this one with interest as I regularly go through my wardrobe -and decide I ll keep it all just in case.

You know I need this challenge! I will be happy to have you cheering me on. I got started with summer shoes and a few odds and ends that are just so-so.

I'm in! We did my husband's wardrobe a couple weeks ago. I started on mine yesterday trying on some things I haven't worn in ages. For two years, I had a complete and separate wardrobe at the beach. It has now all come back here, and my closet is way overloaded. Off to re-read the linked posts!

I did a pretty thorough edit of my folded clothes/knitwear a few weeks ago. I noticed some moths around this summer so I took everything outside, shook it out thoroughly, tossed the items into plastic bins for temporary holding, and then refolded/reorganized them, culling as I went. Yes! It was exhausting, and a bit of a mess during the process. But so worth it!

I think I did a pretty good job of passing on summer things that were worn or that don't thrill me, clearing en masse items I had previously placed in a holding zone, and paring down a little further.

That said, I didn't really tackle my hanging clothes in my closet, and I'm always down for a good closet edit, so I'll join in!

I recently did a big closet edit; "only" the shoes remain. I'm in for this month. In fact, it was on the schedule for today and postponed due to a miserable cold.
May we all reap the benefits of the edit!

Angie- I am a big fan of the rolling rack's role in editing. Easier to see, order and curate with more room to move.

100% in! I stalled on my inventory last month (life got in the way) but with the change in seasons it's a perfect time to get the inventory finished and relook at what I'm really wearing.

This fall is crazy busy for me, but I going to try and do a mini edit of my f/w wardrobe—not that I need it yet in our continuing warm, sticky weather—this weekend. At least my shoes/boots & bags are sorted and all in good shape.

Your timing is perfect, I woke up this morning heard the morning news couldn’t take it any longer and dove into my closet to clean it out!!! Taking a break right now before I finish - ahhhhh - I am feeling sooooo much better.

I cannot resist a challenge. Of course, I'm in. I will personally take it category by category.

i hate doing this....and so i haven't done it in....well, a long time...
i actually was thinking about this earlier this week, because the temperatures went back up to summer and i was trying to find a specific shirt, and was just overwhelmed...so i'm in...but will warn you, that i move very slowly because i'm very indecisive and second guess myself....

This is not my forte. I’m slow and don’t have stamina and my collection is huge.

That said, I think I will commit to shoes. I’m hanging on to shoes that I don’t wear because my feet have become fussy fussy fussy.

Hmm, I already brought my big bag of fall clothes to the consignment shop (and dropped the rejects at the thrift store), and listed a handful of things on eBay. But maybe I should do my post-summer cull now. Off the top of my head, there's a pilling jersey dress and a pair of denim shorts that have gone threadbare in the seat...

I edited my shoes the week before last, so that's a start. I get stuck at the point of thinking I should try to get some money for some of the things I'm editing out. That's a whole other process, and very intimidating to me.

I am in - planning a spring switchover next week on my return from vacation. I have done some of the work - repairing a couple of pieces, sending coats to be cleaned. There won't be many to edit out as my closet is lean. The fat is in occasion wear but I am okay with that - I will look at it though.

I am in. Shoes and sweaters are my focus.

It's perfect timing for me. I have a mirror in our gorgeous new wardrobe now and have only moved a few items in there. They must all earn their place. I can do try-ons and take the photos myself for you all. My style is shifting as well but I can't articulate it yet. I will try.

I have finished a huge closet edit about a month ago and got rid of tons of items due to lifestyle changes in the past year as well as weight gain. I could go for another round as the first one eliminated the super obvious items only. I have tried on only bottoms and dresses - items that were most influenced by weight gain, so I could definitely use trying on everything else.

Sure, I’ll play. I edit quite regularly but with no system. And I still do hang on to things thinking I just need to adjust my thinking about an item or find the right combo to make it work.

I’ll be pulling down my fall/winter sweaters this weekend so I’ll start then with knitwear. Work has been a little overwhelming the past six weeks so this’ll be a nice diversion.

Love this! I just started a huge edit a few months ago while trying to teach myself how to put outfits together. I realized very few items in my closet go together and I never buy basics (so glad I found YLF blog! I’ve poured over it for days!!!) I added a few missing items and have been loving how it’s all coming together!

Great suggestions, Angie. However, I did a closet edit in September, when changing from summer to fall wardrobe, and my next closet edit will be in November, when changing from fall to winter wardrobe.

I wish you all good luck in October. Will follow you with interest and hope to pick up a useful tip or two.

Just ran across this post now. I so need to do this but I'm so afraid. I have a hard time letting things go and hang onto way too much. I wish Angie could hold my hand and help me through the process hahaha. I will review The Links posted and try to find the courage to go for it. It just seems so overwhelming I don't know where to start. And I have let go of things in the past and then regret it. Editing triggers so many emotions for me. I wish I could step outside myself and not let my emotions get to me.

Your challenge is well timed. Challenge accepted. I recently edited all of the items in my built in dresser when I reorganized the drawers: undergarments and tights, short sleeved tops and sleeveless shells, long sleeved tops, lounge wear, sleep wear, workout wear. All edited!
I need to edit my fall/winter wear and my dressier wear. It will be great to get those tasks done!
