Challenge closet edit - scarves!

I started a big edit a few months ago, but this challenge will help push me to keep going on the sections I’ve struggled with. Next up, scarves! Warning: I have a scarf addiction...

This is a photo of what I’m working with. I want to edit more, but I am on the fence about some of these and would love some feedback. For reference, my outerwear is an olive parka, a plum/burgundy wool 3/4 coat, a Barbour waxed jacket (brownish), a black leather trench. Most of my clothes are olive, navy, and burgundy with some emerald, grass green, grey, plum and bright yellow (goldenrod).

Time to purge!

In a the top row I have a lightweight emerald green and white polka dot, a foresty-green with sheen, an olive pashmina and a leopard cashmere. I love the sheen of the green one, but it doesn’t really go with anything in my closet. The leopard is very warm, but I never reach for it.

The second row is a plaid navy/mustard, a baby alpaca that I knitted-very soft, but not fashionable, and a print paisley one that isn’t super warm, but has a lot of colors from my other clothes, it feels like an easy piece to pull together a look(?)

Row three are all large (very large) blanket scarves. The plaid one has burgundy, brown an black — I also have a rust colored one. Do I need both? The mustard one I kept only because it feels sunny and happy when it’s cold and grey outside, but it’s huge and cumbersome.

Oh NO! These are fabulous....

I don’t want to spoil your closet edit challenge, but why on earth would you purge these gorgeous scarves? You can’t ever have too many scarves.

Feel free to ignore me, though. I am a fellow scarf addict...no help here

I'm with Katerina. Scarves are easy to store. I vote keep them all. Or at least put the ones you don't reach for in a holding zone.

If you could only see my scarf collection which is a combination of my own, accumulated over the years, and inherited scarves. The entire group, which includes "wraps" fills two drawers! Your collection is perfect as is. You have variety, color and different shapes--perfect! This is what I would like my collection to look like.

Thank you for your input!! This was round two of my edit (I donated at least a dozen, likely closer to 20), and I guess I see some duplication of sorts, so room to purge more (I get overwhelmed when I have too many options!)

I will move the polka dot and rust ones to my holding area and make a conscious effort to reach for the others.

Scarves are so personal. They all look like they’re in good condition and it doesn’t look like there’s much duplication, so I would edit based on happiness factor.

I used your scarf edit as inspiration today when I did my closet edit. I had thought - well they don’t take up much space - but when I have too many options I don’t wear any of them!

@kerry that’s sooo true! I feel like I would wear more often if I had fewer to choose from.

Scarves don't take up much space. If you have the space for them, keep them!

We re not really helping are we!Keep the scarves if you can unless you are sure that you never ever wear them or they are tatty.

I have heard “you don’t need more clothes, you need more accessories.” And it’s true that scarves can add a lot of flair and warmth and versatility to an outfit. Keep most, get rid of the ones you just don’t like that much in your gut.

Also, I have a friend who uses scarves as tablecloths, couch throws, something to drape under a lamp, etc. Something to think about.
