Caved in to yoga pants...

My friend and I went to the Rack this weekend in search of cotton tops for her for Africa and comfy pants for me for pre and post surgery. She talked me into a pair of Marika yoga pants. I have always avoided yoga pants only because they are such a ubiquitous default item here with Dansko clogs and hoodies.

But OMG are they comfortable! I love them. And even kind of cute with a slight bootcut. And here I am wearing them with a thermal hoodie and slippers at home. Is this the beginning of the end for me? If so at least I will be happy in my style demise!

Definitely not the beginning of the end:) Cut yourself some slack You absolutely need to be comfortable now and you after the surgery. I had a selection of black jersey stretch 'things" that I wore during that time.

In fact I still have the yoga pants I bought. There were perfect. I were mine with soft draped jersey tops ... probably looked a lot like pj's but I felt comfortable and put together for when I had visitors.

All teasing aside , I've always thought yoga gear is extremely cute - even bootcut pants . Throw on a cool long sweater or distressed t and some good sneakers and you are good to go . I wear my Lulu tights all the time - for that price , you bet they are going to be worn outside of the gym!

Yoga pants were a lifesaver for me after I had an abdominal injury. I still wear them around the house and occasionally for long airplane trips. They make my butt look good and the bootcut make my thighs look skinny. I admit I've never worn them to the grocery store.

Let yourself relax into a pair. You'll love them for long sitting episodes.

Lol no, I think you've definitely got enough style mojo to overcome the yoga pants.

You know, when LuLuLemon first got started, I was living at ground zero. Literally the same neighbourhood. I used to pop in on Fridays sometimes as I walked home from work (sigh...back in the days when I lived in the same neighbourhood I worked). So I wore them a bit back then (although not for work), and a lot for pregnancy and post-pregnancy, and they really were pretty cute. Except I felt like I was walking around in my pjs. So when I was finally done with pregnancy, I was very happy to put them away for good.

I expect you will feel the same when when you've got rid of your "fibroid baby". But for now, they are the perfect option.

May I ask if those pajama jeans are still in rotation for you? Those seem like they might be comfortable in addition to your new yoga pants (which by the way, I love as well).

If I could find a nice pair of well fitting yoga pants (straight), I would buy them in multiple colors. I am challenged by issues with length and composition (I would like to limit synthetics during summer months).

I bought some Marika yoga pants at Sam's Club last year, and they are so comfortable. I'm glad you found a pair that you love.

No worries, Una. You're using your style to enhance your comfort; right now, that's what you need to do. Self-care. When you are to the other side of your recovery, you'll be back to dressing for other priorities. They make these options for a reason. Think of them as gear for pre and post surgery. All the best.

For the life of me, I struggle to understand the REAL difference between quality yoga pants and ponte pants. I think the latter is what we call them when we want to wear pull on easy black pants that hold everything in - yet want to sound more sophisticated than saying yoga pants! They are essentially the same thing. I have been wearing my Kit and Ace ponte pants like crazy and although they have a couple of added details the basic facts are the same. So, like, we're twins.

I certainly wouldn't call myself particularly fashionable, but I do try, and I wear yoga pants (specifically, bootcut Lands End Starfish black pants) out and about. I'm in a study group with some younger women and last week I wore the black pants, a v-neck tshirt in dark blue (longer and snugger than I used to wear), and a jean jacket, and when I walked in they LOUDLY complimented me on how cute and trendy I looked. I feel good in them, they apparently look ok, and I've learned how to make outfits with them that are appropriate for most of my weekday activities.(I should have taken a picture! This week...)

I was going to say much the same thing as Vivian about ponte pants. My Kit and Ace pants feel pretty much the same as yoga pants, but look a tad dressier because they aren't leggings.

I bet you look great in those bootcut pants! And I would encourage the purchase of a couple more inexpensive pair, maybe in the next size up for when you can't stand much pressure on your post-op midsection or maybe in the cropped version for the heat. Leave the tags, as you might not wear them, but it's hard to know.

I remember running out for a friend to buy 6-7 bras for her to try to wear right after reconstructive surgery. She was so much happier once she got the right size -- and with the swelling it was a larger size than she had predicted. The same item would be falling off her now....

I totally agree with Viva. What is the real difference between 'ponte' pants/leggings and gear pants/leggings? I've often thought about this and have come to the conclusion it's how just about how I view them and style them. I admit, I've bought gear leggings to wear as non gear. So what, no one knows when I have on a cute sweater and tall boots anyway, so I just got over it. And I think you need to cut yourself some slack. Yoga pants and leggings are a godsend for me on the days when my fibroid is particularly angry and I'm extra bloated looking and feeling awful. I suspect you look a ton more stylish in them than most too!

Jeez, Una, cut yourself some slack! In any case, I live in a hipster part of Boston and you see them everywhere.

(Incidentally, I've long had a weird fashion fetish for workout gear. Some of it is the coolest-designed stuff around, IMO. If only I had the body to look great in it...)

Yes, I am with AJ too. These are part of your recovery capsule. You're looking as good as you can with your sensitive midsection. Blending in with the crowd doesn't seem to be your thing so I can understand why you feel like you "caved", but I'm sure there are ways to work around these pants (if you want to).
Anyway, it's good to hear that at least for now, you're enjoying your pants and hoodie!

When I had knee surgery, I bought a couple pairs of Roots boyfriend style sweatpants. Oversized, easy to get on and off, and super comfy during recovery. I don't regret it for a minute and now they're part of my lounging/sick capsule. And if it makes you feel better, I was so sick of them by the time I recovered that I didn't wear them again for awhile anyway!

So, definitely enjoy them while you need them. The last thing you want after surgery is to worry about little things like this. And good luck!

I've been thinking about trying some yoga pants myself. I figure if I'm going to end up lounge wear most evening and weekends, it may as well be purposeful and fun instead of looking like a threadbare mess!! Plus, some of the gear wear is so cute! Thanks for the tip on another thread about Athleta carrying petites. I had never noticed that.

No, it's not the beginning of the end. As everyone has said, you need to take care of yourself, and be comfortable.

Confession: My Lulu yoga pants, that I wear at home All The Time, are a bootcut/wide leg pant, so they don't have the leggings/gear/yoga look in the slightest. They are comfortable, and wash easily. Sure, I may not go out shopping in them, but when I get home from work and have nowhere to go, they are perfect. So I'll defend your choice to the end

Athleta Bettona Classic pants! The outer side hem is single stitched, so I slimmed it into a straight leg from a yoga flare. They have jeans styling and wonderful pockets!! I wore them a lot on a 24 day Europe trip last summer (only carryon luggage!) and they worked really well. So comfy and flattering. More casual, but still very fun Athleta Metro Slouch. Straight leg and again - great pockets!!

In the Bettona the small fit me well when I was 130, the xs fits well at 120. I'm 5'2" and the inseam on petite Metro s good. I got a regular length in the bettonas because I needed to re hem after I slimmed them. I still had to take out the old hem rather than just cut it off (I'n picky that way) so I might actually order a tall if I was going to do that process again.

Sorry to hijack buy I have a question for karen13. I also have 3 pairs of the Metro slouch pants and I LOVE them. Except that they don't seem to wash well. They pick up every, single bit of lint in the wash. I have taken to washing them by themselves and it is a little better. But still. Do you have that problem? Am I doing something wrong? I don't usually use dryer sheets. I wonder if I used them on these if it would help.

I have 2 pair of bookcut yoga pants - black and heathered grey, and 2 pair of cropped - 1 wide leg/gaucho and 1 kick flare. I struggle to NOT wear them other than to and from the gym (which is like, 6 times a week!), and sometimes succumb to PM or weekend wear if I am housebound. The crops get worn for yoga workouts and as beach cover-ups, though I have worn the kick crops with a tunic and strappy sandals for 'dinner out'!

What Viva said. Some look every bit as nice (or even better) than what is sold as a standard black trouser.

AviaMariah- I bought my metro slouches last May, they are a medium gray. I have never noticed them picking any lint up. I wash them cold delicate in the front loader machine, with other items, and hang dry. I haven't noticed any real lint problems on my bettonas either. I don't have pets, so that doesn't come up. Not sure why our experience is so different.
