Casual wedding reception, what to wear help

Hi can anyone help on ideas of what to wear to a casual wedding reception??? I avoid weddings like the plague last one i went to was my own 18 years ago but i have to go to this one any ideas at all would be great im useless when it come to clothes

I prefer the formula: Short dress, clutch, nice shoes, but you can wear an outfit similar to 3 (just change the jeans for classic pants

Weddings can have different "dress codes." Do you know where the reception is being held, and can you share the time of day?

Its at night and in a hotel thats all i know so far

Hmm. At night in a hotel does not sound super casual, or at least it wouldn't be in most parts of North America. I think Rute's idea of a short dress with heels and nice accessories is probably the best bet.

Hmmm, hotel at night sounds like cocktail attire to me. I like what rute posted! I would certainly keep that as an option. You might also consider a knee length sheath with funky jewelry and a pretty clutch. Weddings can be a lot of fun; I hope you enjoy!

Ok just found out it starts at four, its the first time i will be meeting my fella's family all together so no pressure there at all lol and i need to cover a tattoo on my arm or the irish mammy might beat me with her handbag lol never get a second chance to make a first impression

A DVF-style wrap dress maybe? It could be dressed up or down with shoes and accessories depending on how dressy the wedding is. Plus it has sleeves to cover the tattoo.

I have a very similar event this weekend myself, so this post was helpful. Will the Irish mommy be put off by the shortness of the dress, I wonder, if she is also tattoo averse?? (-:

Luckily this is a friend of my hubby's wedding, so I don't need to worry about familial relations.
