Casual Vest, take 1

Angie's casual vest post really struck a chord with me. I bought this blush vest last summer while on vacation and never wore it. It seemed to look too light with everything. White or cream seems like the best way to go--so that is what I'm starting with. It's too cool to wear this yet but what do you think? Is optic white better than cream or do they both work? Not sure about the footwear color either.

The other two photos show the jacket I asked your opinion on and subsequently picked up last week--I already cut the tags so I hope you like it

love...so on trend and a great fit. slims your shoulders visually and balances you.

Not really sure why, but I favor #2 over the first. I think it is less about color and more about proportion.

Hmm, I agree with Atlantia. The proportions are much better in #2.

I wonder if the color of the vest could pair well with all the pastels that are out right now. Specifically, I think mint green would look pretty.

I think pil nailed it - it is the sleeve length, coupled with the more streamlined cut of the shirt underneath in #2 that makes it the winner! The jacket is great, too, especially paired with the boots and dress. Very nice!

#2 is fab! I wonder what would happen if you wore white jeans, attempting total white out, but keeping those fab booties.

I love # 2, I think because the sleeves are shorter and the shirt just seeme to fit you better....maybe because the hem is shorter? I love the jacket with skirt or trouser options.
I just ordered a military green vest the other day and I'm hoping I can style it as well as you have done with yours.

What about a navy top, jeans and the vest? I have a buff colored furry vest and I wear it with black jeans and a black top. Of course, I like contrast but I also like your 2nd picture.

Another vote for #2 but I also like the idea of wearing the vest with a darker top. Navy or charcoal come to mind first for me. I think you look really great - am I am a bit vestophobic (I own two and only wore one of them once so far).

Ah, I had a feeling that #2 was the better of the two. I was hoping that #1 would get a pass too though because I don’t get much wear out of that tunic. The slimmer button down does seem to have more pleasing proportions though--I guess I can trust my fashion sense sometimes

@StaceyMcGill: Great idea. I have a pistachio sweater--perhaps I should try that. I don’t really have much else in terms of pastels.
@sarah: Funny, I tried that with my white capris and didn’t like. I’m still on the lookout for white straight legs. I’m tempted to try the matchsticks but they are kind of pricey for someone as spill prone as myself. Glad you like the shearling--you guys told me to buy it afterall.

It is amazing how the vest reads so differently in the two photos. I agree that it looks best in #2. That being said don't give up on that tunic, I would love to see that piece on its own. It looks like a beautiful piece. The jacket is fab, would love something like that myself!

@Tina: I should wear the blouse more but I'm so spill and stain prone. I'm always afraid I'm going to ruin it. It's silk and launders well but then there is all of that pressing Thanks for the thumbs up on the jacket!
@CF: The shoes are Boutique 9--Angie featured them in a blog post awhile back. I think a bunch of us have them. Pretty comfy but a bit on the narrow side, I think.

Wow, that vest looks way too good on you to languish in a closet.
I like it with both cream or white, but I agree that the proportions look better in #2. Could you try rolling up the sleeves on the tunic and see if that helps?
The fab light-colored shoes bookend it perfectly.

The jacket seems a little bulky through the upper body, but I really like the accent of the shearling collar on you.

I also have a blush vest, mine is pleather and bit darker shade of blush than yours. I have worn it quite a bit, most recently with cream sweater and grey/white striped jeans, over blush silk blouse etc. I like it paired with all shades of cram/white and grey, as well as other pastels. I have seen some pairings of blush with black in magazines, but am yet to try that.

#2 definitely looks best - I think ITs generally look better with some arm showing, don't ask me why. Great jacket - is is real shearling?!

Thanks, Parsley! You are absolutely right about the fit on the jacket. That's part of what drew me toward it--the fit is so comfy and easy to wear. My shoulders love it I think the cropped length prevents it from being overwhelming.
@Tanya: Thank you. I've seen blush with black too but it looked to severe to me (at least on low contrast me.) I love it with the creams/whites and don't know why I never tried it.
@Una: Thanks! Real shearling? It was less than $20 at UO so I think it is faux Bargain of the century for me. I've always wanted a shearling jacket after seeing Anna in hers. This one is lightweight and not too bulky--perfect for me!

I've always felt that something was off if I wore a white blazer/vest/jacket. When I realized I was an IT, that seemed to make sense...it drew too much attention to my shoulder proportions. But then I bought a white thin draped cardi and a cream vest. I've learned that if my first layer of top and bottom are tonal (whether contrasting or monochromatic to the light topper, then it looked better to my eye.

I like your blush vest! I hope you can find ways to wear it more this spring/summer. I like the proportions in #2 better than #1. The new shearling jacket is FAB and goes great with your style!

I think #1 and #2 BOTH look fab! #2 is more conventional proportions, and I agree with Una on the exposed arms. But I do like #1 in an oversized comfy way, as long as you keep those heels on (Shearling jacket looks great, too!)

I love the vest!!! I do like it with white and I prefer it with #2, but would REALLY like it with something drapier or a more form fitting knit. I think the issue with #1 is that it's too stiff. That length would work otherwise.

Kellygirl, I agree with Aida. I like both #1 and #2. That vest is super fab and the black jacket is nice too.

@AJ: I know we’ve talked about white on top before. I’m finally just embracing the color after struggling with my white denim jacket for so long. I think it makes me look broader on top but it seems like it balances my increasingly widening bottom half these days

@Aida and Mona: Ooh, thanks! I’m glad that 1 works in a different way. I was hoping someone would give it their blessing. I will try hitching up the sleeves--it has those tabs things on the inside for holding up the rolled fabric.
@Jjsloane: Thanks. I will see what I have that is more fitted. I tend to avoid fitted in light colors so I’m not sure what I have besides a layering tee. I think that may be too fitted.
@Shannon: Thank you. This isn’t the last you will see of the vest. It is only “take 1”
