Casual trench - Boden vs. Soia & Kyo

I have been dithering on getting a casual trench for daily wear during the fall...I had been looking at the Boden raincoat...but worry that at the end of the day, it's kind of a traditional parka silhouette, albeit in a neat deep purple color...I'm looking for a fun, cool trench that I can layer a longsleeved tee and possibly a lightweight sweater...on the other hand, I'm trying to get into boyfriend jackets and the like, so perhaps that will take care of the crisp fall days and I should focus instead on upgrading my short casual wool coat? Not sure...anyway, some trench eye candy for you...

NOTE: I did order the Hunter boots in glossy violet and love them...I fear the fuschia wouldn't work with them, so I would need the black version of the S&K trenches above, where noted.

Yay you ordered the glossy Hunter's.
I like the 1st jacket best with the boots or the last one (blue)
They both say shower proof and water resistant I don't think these would keep you as dry as a waterproof jacket and if it's wet enough for wellies I fear these may let some water in? x

I like the second one best but not in black. Otherwise, I would vote for the third one. I have the same concerns as Louise, though.

i prefer the neckline on the soia jackets. love it in blue. are you going to wear the wellies as a fashion item or as a weather-related need? if the former, then the waterproofness of the jacket shouldn;t be much of an issue. if the latter...only you can decide how wet you can tolerate yourself to be, especially if you'll be sitting outdoors. the coats don't seem long enough to cover your bum when seated.

bit concerned about putting such a strong color (even a non-navy blue) with the glossy purple hunters.

You have a long enough neck to pull off the second and third onces, but I think that with your wellies I would go for the Boden one. It really feels like your style to me.
Oh and by the way- I am having *so much fun* shopping vicariously through you lately- thanks for sharing!

Ooh, MPJ, I have been eyeing the Winter White version of that Rainy Day Jacket from Boden... Had kind of forgotten about it so thanks for the reminder. Ahem.

Hmm. The Soia and Kyo jackets certainly have more edge. Which one do you think would make you long for a rainy day?

bj111 - a little of both - I'm in New England, and we frequently have days where the ground is muddy or puddly from the rain the night before (requiring rainboots), yet it's not actually raining, or doing much more than a light mist. (I can think of a couple playgrounds and one children's educational farm where wellies would be useful, but a water resistant jacket would suffice - and particularly in the muddy, slushy spring, when it's too hot for winter boots and too mucky for ballet flats or the like). The Boden is also nice because the hood detaches.

chewy - Okay, now you are just teasing me. I know I've been on a shop-a-palooza lately, but it's just finally coming together for me
stylewise. A year ago, the idea of tunics and leggings, for example, was quite appealing, but daunting, as I had no leggings, no ballet flats, no knee high boots, no tunics, and no idea of what my style was. I am glad you are having fun, tho...

Louise - Yes - the Hunter boots are fab in violet. Now for a rainy day! I will try to model them with my black trench soon.

bella - Aren't S+K trenches cool? Love the style.

April - I really love the Boden trench in winter white - I'm just too clumsy for it, and my littlest one still stands up in my lap...I'm not sure it would be that fab covered in little muddy welly-prints. That is an excellent question...I guess I love the mod-ishness of the S+K trenches...but the Boden trench looks relaxed but still stylish...

Oh, MPJ, I have to stop clicking on your links, I end up "needing" what you are looking at. I like the cut and color of jacket #3 the best, but I like the hood on #2.

I like the Boden the best because it's the longest. If it's raining out I like as much coverage as I can get with my jackets.

MPJ, I have to say, I am transfixed by the blue S&K coat! But practically speaking, the Boden coat would probably stand up to the weather and your little ones a little better. Nothing wrong with that though--I'm a bit of a Boden addict myself!

BTW, I have those Hunters in the glossy violet too, and I absolutely adore them. I too worried that I should play it safe and go for basic black for the sake of versatility, and I'm so glad now that Nordstrom's was sold out of the black when I went shopping for them. I've found that the glossy violet is fun, surprisingly versatile, and always picks up my spirits on rainy, gloomy days.

Oooh gorgeous jackets, and even more gorgeous boots! I vote Boden one like many others here. Which have you decided on?

I'm sure it will come as a suprise to no one, but I did go for the Boden in 'aubergine.' lol They do seem to be reading my mind this year! It will be a few weeks tho - it's backordered by 2, and then there's 7-10 day delivery from the UK...still, I can wait!

Hope someone else picks up the S+K trenches - they're pretty cool.
