casual shoes for fall/ winter

I am looking for some casual fall/ winter footwear which are mostly closed toe. Since I have never worn an actual closed toe except for sneakers and peeptoes(sort of closed) I need some suggestions in choosing the right kind. Please let me know what you think about these styles.

Can these be worn with jeans while going out may be to restaurant or movies

Hi Reshma...I like the first pair of shoes you linked to for fall/winter. Neither of the other two appear to be practical for cooler weather as mary-janes look best without hose (ballet flats as well) and I think there are much more versatile styles than the mules out there. How will you be wearing them...daily, just for evenings out, work? Also, the loafers can be worn with thin trouser socks under jeans and pants.

Quite a few YLFers wear converse as a casual shoe with jeans during the colder months (with bootlegs or wider legs if you're over 25, with straight legs and skinnies if you're younger).

Are you opposed to an ankle boot or a bootie?

Hi Reshma,

I have a pair of shoes similar to your first choice that I wear fall/winter. Otherwise, I'm usually in Converse sneakers (fall) or boots (fall/winter). I wear my ankle boots most often - I have a few pair in different colors.

Dani, I want something for pairing with blue jeans/ cream cotton pants. i want them to really look good for work, dinners, movies. and my work place is very casual. So, it need not be dressy at all. I do use biker sneakers for casual wear especially when the outfits are on the casual side. But I dont think i can go in them for a dinner.

i do want to try these ankle boots for fall/ winter .. am more for a smaller heal. what do you think of these styles. Also, if possible, pls do post some links with appropriate styles.

Resma, I love jazz shoes and brouges for fall weather. Similar to the first pair you linked to, but lace-up and with a pointier toe. I can't find any on that site, but if you search Zappos or another site, you're bound to find some. They're very stylish right now, comfortable, and look great with jeans and slim trousers. They also have a nice retro/menswear look, which is great if you're into that.

I have a pair very similar to the last ones you posted - and I treat them more as a summer shoe rather than a winter one. They are very comfortable for walking around in.

Loafers are rising fast in popularity in London and I think that they possibly will gain a lot of ground on ballet flats as a choice of shoe. Kate Moss and Alexa Chung have both been photographed wearing this look since Spring.
