Casual holiday outfit #1 - ideas?

OK, I'm a bit embarrassed to be posting since I have been so absent lately, but here goes. I have only two holiday parties (well, besides work stuff) - both are family gatherings that will be very casual. I thought I would build one outfit around this jacket, since it's fairly festive. Any suggestions for styling this jacket for a family holiday gathering?

ETA: I'm not necessarily suggesting either of these outfits, but they show the jacket.

I love both of these--especially the BF jeans with the leopard belt. I think the second version would be awesome with your black CH boots to add some interest to the bottom. Or what about tucking the BF jeans into the black CH a la Rae? Looking good there, sarah!

Thanks, Kelly - I wasn't even thinking that one of these was a contender. I'm not sure I can pull off what Rae can pull off, but it's worth a try, eh?

I like both, but lean toward 1 with the addition of something sparkly (that's me though) like a pin or earrings.

Both look great - I especially like outfit #2 for a festive occasion. The jeans are lovely and i would like them tucked into boots too...

sarah, this jacket was positively MADE for holiday wear of the casual kind! It is perfect. I like it just as you have it (for different types of occasion). It would also look great with ink blue, winter white, or grey columns of colour beneath. You could try it with a pencil skirt for a slightly dressier but still casual event.

Either of these outfits would work just as they are. You could wear the jacket with a black, silver or grey sequined top under it and either jeans or your black pants..

WHOOPing for love of that jacket! It's a statement festive piece and hardly needs dressing up. Would be a great less-conventional addition to an LBD or black skirt though, and I adore what you've already got in #1 for daytime. You could just add a tiny hint of sparkle, if that speaks to your style, with a bracelet, pin or earrings.

I also like the suggestions to try it with grey or black pants and a different colour of top. White works either way, the easiest one by far. A whole column of white, as Suz suggests, underneath would be so elegant and cheerful --- like robin redbreast. I can also see it underpinned with a dark green for contrast. Or a houndstooth or tweed pants/dress/skirt, if you enjoy mixing patterns.

Such a beauty, I say again! With so many possibilities and so flattering for your colouring...

Sarah I miss your posts:). This jacket is gorgeous on you and I think it would be perfect for the holidays. I particularly like #2. Given the parties are casual is your preference to wear trousers? And would you be leaving the jacket on?

Thanks, all! I love your ideas. I especially love the idea of a column of winter white under it, but alas, I think I'm going to try to SYC on this one, for all the reasons that were discussed in Suz's post the other day. I don't want to buy one more thing that will only be worn for the holidays, and winter white trousers, while lovely, don't really have a place in my salt-encrusted, snowy Minnesota winter wardrobe (remember, "practical" is one of my style adjectives).

You've given me some food for thought, and I'll go away and mull it over. I have worn this with a pencil skirt (grey, with a black cowl and boots) and it looks quite nice that way, too, although I'm feeling like pencil skirts are rather "work-y" these days. Not sure why...
