Cardigan and shoes to go with the floral dress?

I've had a look and found a cardigan at H&M that might go well with the dress, provided it isn't too long. https://www.hm.com/de/product/.....le=06130-C Should I try this one? I'd want to wear it open. The color pics up the brown in the leaves and isn't too dark. I thought a bright color might be a bit much and distract from the pattern and I don't think I want a white one - I don't want to be too white overall.

Also, what about these ballet flats? http://www.clarks.de/p/20352886 These again aren't cheap, but I would have a pair of good quality ballet flats for 50€ in a light colored neutral if they work out. And they're available in the wide width. Too boring?

I like the idea of the netural cardigan with that dress over white or a bright color, I'd just make sure it is a flattering length and shape, which is hard to tell from a photo especially since you'll wear it open. I can't picture you in that color, do you think it will flatter? I also hope it would be something you could wear again.

Thanks Elly. I would have to try it of course, you're right that the shape or length might not work out. It has three quarter sleeves, so it seems to be not too long in the body from the way it looks in the picture. If the color turns out to be the way it looks like on my screen it should work. Soft colors work well on my light and neutral coloring and it doesn't look overly warm colored on my screen. I wouldn't wear this color head to do because the contrast would be too low, but I think it would work in the cardigan. I can definitely see myself wearing the cardigan again in summer with my various skirts.

Hmmm...I think I'd like to see a more colorful cardi - perhaps the green or yellow would go? The dress is so summery, I'm afraid the beige will bring it down.

Thanks Sarah. I can see what you mean. Both the green and the yellow are in the pattern (like almost every other color), but I think they might not be best on me. I've never worn solid yellow and the green looks like it might be problematic on my screen.

Love the flats Astrid - these could be a great neutral and bright summer shoe for you.

I'm afraid I'm less thrilled with the cardigan. I'm worried it would come across as soul sucking beige. I'm with Sarah in thinking something brighter? and maybe a bit shorter, almost cropped, so that the gorgeous waist and flare of the dress doesn't get lost underneath a longer cardigan. Just some thoughts.

I like Sarah's green idea! With green you probably don't need an exact match to the print and could use one that is flattering on you. The shoes are cute.

Thanks Shannon. I'm going to think about the flats. I agree with you, I do think I would get lots of use out of them. The problem with a shorter cardigan is that the waist of the dress sits higher than my natural waist and I already am quite short waisted! I'm not sure I'm going to find one that's cropped enough, I'd probably need a bolero then and I'm not a fan of those...

Thanks Pil. I've taken a pic of the dress with my green cardi. That one is a dark green I really like on me (but of course a bit well-worn). It's blurry, but you can see the colors well. I think if I do a green then a lighter green would be necessary. Something like my green scarf maybe?

Astrid - I think you should consider if you will really need to wear the topper much for the event - if not, then maybe something in your closet already could work? Or something could be borrowed? If you think you will def. need it for most of the event, be sure you buy something you really love so you can maximize that budget! The shoes look great - if they fit and are comfortable and you'll use them often.

Thanks Texstyle. Problem is I have no idea how the weather is going to be until maybe three days before. It's not really constant. It might be very warm, I'd go without a topper then. Or it might be just warm enough for the dress. The toppers I have are all too casual or the wrong color, I definitely need something new. I can't borrow from anyone either, there's no one I know with my size.

Astrid, I've tried to wear these kind of button down cardis over nice dresses, and to me it doesn't quite work. I'd recommend an open front cardi or jacket, but I do think a button down could work in a pinch. Because the open front arent meant to button, they sometimes don't cover as much, which I think should be a goal with this beautiful dress.

Yes the blue could work, so could the yellow or maybe even the green. Can you order a couple of different colours and see which you like best?
The shoes you've picked look great - stylish and comfortable too.

Thanks Liz! I often wear my cardis open above skirts (less over dresses), so I know what you mean. I'm going to see if an cropped open front cardi in the right color comes up anywhere.

Thanks Misvee! I could order several colors and/or sizes at H&M, that wouldn't be a problem. You can buy on account. Oh and I orderd the shoes! Hope they work out.

I love the idea of green or blue, but I really think you should keep your eyes out for a bolero style. Also FYI this is a similar blue to the one you are looking at that I saw on sale, but a fine knit would be fancier.
