Can't wear shorts

I have bad spider veins and spots on my legs. I'm going to Florida and need to dress for warmer weather. I need some help with what to buy to look in style but can't really show a lot of leg.

Hi Beck. I have the same problem with spider veins on my legs. What about a bermuda short? I've used a few self tanners as well to help hide spider veins. They're not completely gone, but they seems to be less noticeable.

Can't use self tanner because the spots just get darker. Where could I purchase a lightweight maxi?

I think most stores sell maxis. I got one from Gap last year that I absolutely love.

There are also lots of good make up options for covering such things. Dermablend or Canadian company coverfx. I know because I have varicose veins and spiders in my family. Just a matter of time...
But otherwise, yeah maxis are lovely and just about everywhere.

I have the same issue. I use a self tanning lotion on m legs comes sandal season, but they still show. i think I have just embraced the suckers!

I recommend maxi skirts. They come in lots of styles and price points. I linked an Eileen Fiaher an Old Navy above.

Depending on your shape, I vote for the floaty skirts. I think the length would be cooler and might be more flattering than a maxi.

I second the vote for floaty skirts and bermuda shorts. I've found maxi's to be hot in a humid climate as they trap the air around your legs. Florida is really hot and really humid.

How about some loose, wide-leg linen trousers? I always imagine myself wearing something like that with flat sandals and a big sun hat. Linen is supposed to be an excellent fabric for tropical climates.

I have to second the Dermablend. When I was younger, I used it for shows, to completely cover a strawberry-red birthmark behind my ear, (these days I use Ben Nye). A friend who was in a pageant used it to cover a very color-rich tattoo on her ankle. It provides complete coverage, is highly water resistant, and really lasts in Florida humidity. I never noticed a problem with rub-off on clothing - usually to get the stuff off, required soap or makeup remover, and a whole lotta scrubbing.

At the time it first hit the market, the spokesperson was that model who was attacked by a stalker and had multiple slash-scars where he had knifed her face. I cannot recall her name, but the before and after pictures in pre-photo-shop days (I'm dating myself here) were incredible.

Beck, I live in Florida and the things I find most comfortable when not wearing shorts are lightweight skirts, capris and linen trousers. Jill has some nice ones on their website. I posted some photos for you.

I was going to suggest a midi skirt or knee length skirt/dress. If they have a fuller cut, the eye goes to the flouncy full skirt and not to the legs. Whereas a pencil skirt or bodycon silhouette will draw the eyes down to your legs.

I have some vein issues too.

I like to wear wide leg pants or maxi skirts with sleeveless tops and summery sandals- this way you're still showing some skin so it looks summery.

I agree about capri pants, maxi skirts or dresses and midi-dresses. Indeed, I find dresses to be most comfortable in hot weather because of the breathable and airy nature of the garment; extra coverage is just a happy coicidence.

I have lived in FL for several summers over this last decade and I will say bermuda shorts can be somewhat stifling if you are walking out in the weather. A floaty skirt or dress is much better choice. Room for air to flow
And as for *can't* wear shorts, um, I'd say many of us have less than perfect legs. Don't worry too much. And, honestly, a lot of FL natives will wear shorts and flip flops into very late decades, no matter how 'presentable' their legs might or might not be - it's just part of living there!
