Canadians: get ye to the Bay!

They are having one of their massive clearance-upon-clearance sales that they do on occasion. The place is loaded down with racks and tables of merchandise that is 30% off and then 50% off that again. It's insane. Seriously, TABLES full of boots for 70% off, racks piled with metallic and printed and colored skinnies for $20. I know the Bay is PITA in many ways, but if you've got one near you, now is the time to slog through it.

I went in with a gift card to buy some knee-high socks and founds some awesome stuff. Anyone remember when I was drooling over the burgundy suede Ash Bowie wedges a few months ago, but wasn't willing to pay $250 for them? Well, I'm sure glad I didn't. I got a pair of Material Girl black sneaker wedges for $30 (they look almost identical to the Isabel Marant ones). Also snagged a high-low tee with a beautiful print that reminds me of a Monet painting for $10, and a chunky knit charcoal DKNY sweater with cool asymmetric cabling and metallic threads. And I only had time to do a quick skim of a few areas.

I also saw Janet's Elizabeth and James blazer, and the embroidered Free People pants from Angie's recent blog post, both featured prominently.

Arggggggggh. The Bay pains me! But I am actually in the hunt for a dress to wear to a wedding in Toronto in March, so thanks for the heads up. I will have a good lunch before I go and dress for the slog. Thanks, Ariadne! Onward to the Bay!

Oh....I am SO jealous!!!

I DID stop off at our Bay yesterday, after my shopping trip with Mona. And you are right - there is a big sale. But they don't have these wonderful items. Not much at all. It is pretty sad, in fact. I came away feeling virtuous, though. In the past I probably would have felt tempted to buy one of the sad offerings just because it was priced so low. But this time, I thought -- meh, it doesn't work with my style goals, I don't need it.....

Can't wait to see your finds, though!! It sounds as if these are perfect buys for you. Wow, I wish they'd had the wedge sneakers are my store. I would have tried those on for sure.

oh oh good thing it is after 6pm, otherwise I'd be heading out the door, and my long suffering SO would be shaking his head at the thought that I would put shoes before dinner!
Not all Bays are created equal. Sounds like you have a fab one Ariadne - can't wait to see your loot!

We have a really big fancy Bay in my city, so maybe they get better stuff. The customer service is abominable, though. No tellers at the service desks (I saw a mom and daughter give up and leave without the items they wanted to buy), change rooms are impossible to find, no one on the floor in the shoe department. It's been like that for as long as I can remember. WHY?!

I wore the wedge sneakers for a few hours today (with black coated jeans and my new grey/silver sweater) and was shocked at how comfy they were. I forgot to take a photo, though. I'll try again soon!

Oh, yeah - the Vancouver Bay is almost as good as the flagship Toronto one. The Kingston one...heh...not so much. Although I *have* managed to find the odd thing there from time to time. They do carry a few (not all) of the Lord and Taylor sweaters. If they'd had one in my size I would have tried Shannon's fun striped sweater. (But they didn't have it in my size.) I got my denim jacket there. I got my TOTALLY BELOVED red wool coat there, and my London Fog trench. So it's not a total waste.

And it's in the same mall as the Danier, so it's not so bad to visit.

, can I brave the Cold temps to venture there? My Bay is spotty too. I love their Expression jewelry line, when it is on sale, it is amazing.

Thanks for the heads up, Ariadne. I would have gone there this weekend but I read Suz's comment and agree with her that Kingston Bay is hardly exciting at all. Do share your loot with us soon.

Yeah the service is soooo terrible. But at least with the boots out on a table, you don't have to wait for non-existent help to get your size. I don't know how they manage to sell any footwear normally. And I'm shopping at the flagship Toronto store.
Thanks Ariadne, I may take a look next week at lunch. They already had some good deals 2 weeks ago. I find it daunting though because it's so big with so many brands. Your scores sound great

I was in there last week when the clearance sale started and the prices were amazing. But the store was an absolute mess with stuff everywhere and again, the service was dreadful.

I'm not buying any winter stuff though so turned and walked away.

This time of year I have no interest in being Canadian. However this sale is making me think otherwise!

Our Bay is so tragic! They definitely have different levels, I think we are classed as a "C". Though I will always hit the Bay when in Vancouver or Toronto. Bonnie Brooks actually has done a very fine job especially with the larger stores. I think we will continue to see improvements and I can only hope that they will eventually trickle down to Saskatoon.
