Canadians: Cassis is Closing!

All the stores. Apparently within the next few months.

They just can't make a go of it; nobody wants to pay the prices, even though the prices are reasonable compared to other items of equivalent quality, and they also have good sales.

Sad face.

I have never been to their stores as we do not have them in London. I want to visit them before they close: maybe around Christmas when we visit our friends in Toronto?
It is sad when good stores are closing...

I am not weeping too hard for the owners, who are one of the big conglomerates that owns half the chains in Canada; they will just move their resources into a cheaper line and sell that. I'm weeping for us, the customers! There are many options for low quality clothes, but very few places where one can buy better quality but still mid-priced clothing. Soon it will be H&M or Holt Renfrew; not much in between. So frustrating.

I know. What a bummer! Celia took me to one in Toronto where I got the awesome floral midi dress and was tempted by some other awesome items. While I appreciated the discount I was seriously bummed to hear it would be closing in early 2012. Totally see why Celia & others are fans.

Lyn, they are based out of Montreal but have stores in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Alberta and BC. For a little while only...

The target market is probably a bit older than you (women aged 35 to 40 with some disposable income). Lots of smart casual and professional clothes with some going out clothes mixed in. http://www.cassis.ca/en/handbook.aspx

Unfortunately, most of the clothes are too big for me. But they also have lovely belts, jewelry, scarves, etc.

That is sad, Suz. They have beautiful clothes. Id read they were of the same chain of stores as Reitmans- but the higher end. Like Banana Republic is to Old Navy. I always make a stop at the Moncton store when I'm in town. Very modern classic with great lines.

That is some sad news. I only have a few pieces from them but I like them a lot. I didn't always find the great sales you speak of though -- maybe it was just for the one red dress I bought from them, hoping it would go on sale eventually.
I really liked their pieces for Fall 2011 -- lots of midi and flare skirts. Hopefully the closing sale will be awesome. Keep us posted!

Sadly, most of their stuff doesn't fit me, or I'd have bought more this year! The sizing is too large for me. But I still hope to buy some accessories before they are gone for good.
