Canadian in NYC for Black Friday

I'm going to NYC for the 1st time this weekend and I was hoping to get some shopping tips for Black Friday and NYC. I have never been to the US for Black Friday so I have no idea what to expect. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated. I'm staying at Madison Ave and E45th so I think that I will be in a good location to walk everywhere. Also any must see sights are welcome too. I'm so excited I can't wait! I'm packing almost nothing and bringing an extra bag for all of my goodies...

Erin, you've got a great Midtown location. From where you are you'll easily be able to walk to Rockefeller Center shopping and all the shopping on 5th and Madison Aves. It will be very busy I'm sure! I've never done Black Friday in NYC, but I usually go in early December (peak shopping time) and it's crowded but festive.

I like to shop Soho. You can take a cab down to the Flatiron Building (which is around 21st Street, I think) and walk south toward Soho and then on to Union Square. There is also a great holiday bazaar in Union Square at this time of year. I would definitely check that out. Here's a helpful link to neighborhoods:

The Monkey Bar at the Hotel Elysee in Midtown is a great place for a drink. (and it's right near where you're staying). The last time I was there I saw Steve Martin!
