And hopefully no one will think I'm about to start an X-rated conversation!

So I'm looking for underwear that doesn't show lines, and I'm coming to the conclusion that they're impossible to find. Do you have any recommendations, at any price point? I tried Jockey's Slimmies but they ride up a bit. I used to wear Women's Haines but they've changed the fabrication and I don't like them now.

And no thongs for me, I'm more of a "granny panty" kind of gal.

I'm in the same boat! Maidenform used to make a bikini version that was I loved, but it has been discontinued. I take precious care of the few I have left!

I will be watching this thread for suggestions.

Having just made the switch from thongs for all occasions - lol - I picked up a couple of pairs of these from Jockey - find posted below. I would not have been caught dead - literally-wearing a full brief (even the word sounds old!) until now when I had to acknowledge that it actually looked a bit sexier at my age to be covered than not. Anyways, that's tmi. These panties have control, which my fat stomach needs, and are seamless and do not show lines! I wear them with dresses now, and some jeans if I'm feeling particularly fat . If there is one thing I cannot stand it's visible panty lines, and I guarantee these don't do that. I like a high waist because I have hips and a waist . Boy shorts and anything bikini or hipster cut are laughable on me. as they go straight across my stomach for about the worst possible look ever. You seem pretty thin and straight-up-and-down though, so what works for me may not work for you. Isn't underwear shopping the worst??

I'm a Jockey Girl. There's a nude stripe high cut brief that has always worked for me. The most coverage I have needed has been for white Jean material - jeans, crops, shorts.

I've never been a thong person.

Count me in as another lover of boyshorts. I have a couple of Maidenform styles I like. None are *completely* VPL-free, but they come close ... especially after I realized that I needed to size up.

According to the size chart, I am between a S/5 and an M/6. I wore size M for years, but they always rode up on me. In any style. I chalked it up to having a very curvy butt, and figured there was nothing I could do. My butt moves when I walk, you know? But man was it uncomfortable, and I don't have much tolerance for uncomfortable. So I read on the Already Pretty blog that underwear sizing is whack and to consider sizing up for comfort. Light bulb moment! I moved up to size L/7 -- much better. But I was still preferring the old/stretched out pairs over the newer pairs, so I tried XL/8 ... and *finally*, no more riding up. And they produce less VPL too.

Bought boy shorts recently ---- such a fail! They ride up....and they made me soooo uncomfortable.

I'm curvy, and like Lisa now, I vouch for high waist seamless briefs. They might not look sexy, they definitely feel like granny panties, but boy - are they comfy!!! I like panties that go all the way over my wobbly bits, so high waist has always been a BIG preference. Any other kind of panty gives me an ugly muffin top :/

I buy mine from Marks & Spencer's or Next.

I wear seamless French cut briefs. They are still high enough to be comfortable, but have higher cut legs and don't look quite as utilitarian as regular briefs.

I wear the Aerie boy briefs - they are a great deal and I've converted all my friends. I size up too. I'm a size 4 in Gap but I buy large in these.

I do hate the word panties... Is it just me?

I feel about the word "panties" the way that some people feel about the word "moist." YUCK. Just yuck.

And isn't it interesting how different our underpant preferences are? Total body type indicator.

So I am feeling awful because none of the options suits me particularly well.I'm too curvy to feel perfectly comfy in boyshorts type things (and sizing up only makes them droop, so not a solution). And I'm too straight (or something) to feel right in the full briefs, which will poof about and generally overwhelm.

I'm a bit afraid of lower waist boy briefs not only because of the riding up issue, but there's that flabby belly overhang thing I've got goin' on...

Una, are Aerie briefs from Gap? I wear Gap bodyslips you recommended years ago and they are fabulous, so maybe Aerie's are too.

Echo, what brand are the French cut briefs?

Lisa's, yep, it's definitely sexier at my age (and body shape!) to be more covered up in that area!

Ha, yes, the word "panties" does immediately make me think of the word "ewwww" right after it, although I don't know which is worse, that or the word "underpants," which makes me think of something a toddler wears. I used to work with someone who referred to them as "tighty whities," but that was when she was telling her high school students (boys) to pull up their jeans because no one wanted to see their - -

I bought some Maidenform boy shorts from Kohls. It was an experiment as I'd never tried them before. They did not ride up! I thought they felt wonderful. I'm kind of a chubby pear.

Aerie is from American Eagle . The sizing in panties cracks me up . Even at my thinnest - and that was pretty darn thin - I wore a Large in a thong . Like what do women who wear sizes 8- and up wear ? I still wear that same size - it has more to do with torso length I think . An added note Karie - I found a really pretty , sheer pair of briefs from DKNY that fit really well - high waisted which you and I both like .

For everyday I wear the gap low rise cotton hipsters. Almost the only underpants (I also hate the p-word!) that are roomy enough in the behind for me without also being baggy in front. I don't get the typical panty lines with these (I guess bc the legs are lower cut) but the waistband shows on me under clingy things (which I rarely wear; I think it's only a couple of formal dresses). Anyway in the rare case I need to hide that waistband line the only thing that works are the nude, nylon high waist granny briefs.

I get the overhang too (worse after surgery with stretched out skin!) and i figure if my skivvies don't hold it in, it's better that they are low. I can't stand the feeling of a waistband rolling down with my flab!

I grew up with the term "unmentionables". My very favorite is the Shimera boy short that Tanya linked to, but can no longer find them. Does anyone know where they can be purchased?
I also like the Soma invisable panty line undies. They come in lots of styles,including boy shorts and high waists,and different colors and patterns. Most of mine are the high cut leg, high waist.

I'm now a big fan of OnGossamer - paper-thin bikini briefs that don't show under most clothes so far - including my VC tube skirts. I get them at Nordstrom Rack (store and online) and they run $4-7 on sale there. Very durable, too.

Boyshorts or briefs, what works for me to avoid VPL is : no elastics around hems at all, an all lace or all tulle back.
The laser cut hems of the thin modal stuff should work too -no elastics - but for some reason they don't.
