Can we talk about THAT Gwyneth dress?

Gwyneth Paltrow's choice of dress for the Iron Man 3 premiere has had the twitterati in a frenzy, I would love to know your opinion on this attention grabbing number? Was it the right choice for the newly crowned 'Worlds Most Beautiful Woman'?

I also prefer something a little more modest, if the sheer panel had been two to three inches wide I would probably have been a fan of the look.

I think she looks fine. It may not have been my first choice, but then I didn't wear it.

Also, i think it got what she wanted. People to talk about it.

She actually admitted on the Ellen Degeneres show the other day that this dress was "a disaster".

What is this about the world's most beautiful woman? No, I have to disagree. Beautiful is not the right word for Gwyneth. And to be honest, I don't think enough people care about her. I think she was also recently voted the most hated celeb, which I'm sorry to say is how I think most people feel. There has been something disappointing about the arch of her life. Goop is certainly somehow a little insulting...

However, I do like her because she's made some of my favourite movies. And she used to have a powerful lot of style...

Ok. But to the question: I actually thought it was a great dress. It didn't show anything that I saw. It was all space-age and robotic, appropriate for Iron Man I feel. And it was a zinger.

It isn't my favourite movie premiere dress but I've seen a lot worse. As far as exposing herself goes, I think it is fine for a celebrity. Who else & where else do you get to wear dresses like this, apart from the runway? I and most people I know wouldn't feel comfortable dressing like this so the celebrities might as well. They are thespians, they come from a background in drama & costumes.

This is not friendly to my eye. The white apron looks, well like a white apron, the bodice fabric and skirt don't match which annoys my matchy matchy sensibilities and I dont like the seam down the side of the sheer panel. The green borders add more dissonance. My practical self is grizzling about the whiskering across the hips and contemplating with some horror the high possibility of wardrobe malfunction in the - erm - nether regions.
As for modesty, she's an actor, nuff said.

I don't mind the sheer panels actually, I just think the dress as a whole does not work. There is too much going on, and I do think she was going for space-themed, but I would have preferred something more sleek. The sheer panels, the green trim and belt and the cutout stuff on the front is TOO MUCH all together! I think maybe one of these design decisions would have made for a better dress.

I'm sad cause she wore that CK cape dress at the Oscars which I loved so much!

Rachy, I agree. I feel she went from classy and singular to trying to cover it all (rock star's wife! actress! amazing mom! celebrity chef! country singer!). Too bad because she obviously has a million talents and just needs to realize that like the rest of us, she can't do it ALL.

On the plus side, I really love that it isn't strapless and has sleeves--I really dislike strapless dresses and that whole grown-up-prom/princess thing that is the norm on the red carpet. I like the silhouette, generally speaking. On the negative side, I am a little distracted by the wide sheer side panels and think they detract from the dress.

Love the matching floral top and pants by Erdem she's wearing in some of the other pics of the movie debut!

I'm neutral about the dress. Pluses: I like that it has a comic book sci-fi feel, which I think is a fun, slightly cheeky comment on the movie. (And yes, I did say slightly cheeky.) Negatives: I think it is a little awkward because the silver areas on the bottom part are too narrow, creating a very exaggerated top-heavy look. If the silver had wrapped around and met on the skirt, I think it would have been lovely. No worries about too much side-view show through, no weird proportions. Bottom line: mheh.

I agree with AG. I do think she is beautiful, but that dress isn't doing her any favors and seems out of character.

On the other hand, we're talking about it. Which to some people is all that matters.

The reaction to Gwyneth's dress reminds me of all the gasping we did at Cher's outrageous and outlandish Bob Mackie outfits a few decades ago. Cher was savy enough to realize that what we wanted at these Hollywood events were celebrities in costumes, not tasteful evening dresses.

I'm definitely not a Gwyneth fan, but I applaud her decision to risk wearing a costume instead of another strapless, beaded, fish-tail, designer dress. Can you imagine the fun if all the celebs started dressing this way for events like the Oscars? That red carpet would be sizzling and we'd have enough to talk about for days after the event!

I admire people that take risks but it's just as she said a "disaster".

Yes, to a degree the dress was a huge success as we are taking about her at a time she has both a film and a book to promote, plus lest we forget Gwyneth has donned very sheer dresses in the past (2002 Oscars anyone).

Gaylene and Jonesy, I do think you are right about the lack of diversity shown on the today's red carpet. The great thing about Cher and the likes of Bjork's swan dress is the amount of personality they displayed, I actually looked forward to what they would choose to wear next.

The Gwyneth dress lacks the same impact because you are aware of the team of professionals who played a part in this decision, it feels less like a mistake and more of a calculated risk. I think I would have admired her more if she had told the worlds media 'I have body confidence and love the dress'.

I quite like the dress from the front but the side view! I actually fi d it distasteful. Also the seam down the side seems to pull as she walks and that is also un appealing. Less is always more on my books and I don't see the need to show so much flesh...yes I guess I'm a little old fashioned.

I just think it's awkward looking - like two or three different dresses smashed together. I don't find it particularly risque or shocking,

ETA: HA! Just saw the side view. That's pretty risque, indeed.

I feel bad for her - I think she did it for attention, and to show off her figure a little bit! Sometimes when you're a celeb (I'd imagine), it's easy to get carried away with what the people around you want you to wear.

OMG, I think that dress is just horrid!!!

However, I find GP is absolutely beautiful, I particularly love her face. Though I think she sometimes looks a bit too lean. But such a lovely face.

I actually really like the sci-fi feel to the dress and the way the teal accents bring out her eyes.

I don't like that the dress feels like a manufactured look that's not authentic to the way she typically presents herself. The panels are a horror...make them narrow sheer strips and we might be getting somewhere.
