Are they suitable for daytime wear?
Are they considered neutrals like nude and black pumps?
What do you prefer to pair them with?

Yes, yes, and I pair them with dresses or cropped pants. They don't seem to look as good with long pants. The shine is being dulled by the pant perhaps. If you're worried, try to get a less shiny pair to start with. Oh, I should note that the ones I wear for daytime are leather.

I have a pair of mirror finish Fluevog pumps and wear them occasionally during the day with trousers and a sweater, but they're not that comfortable for extended walking. I wear them more often at night with dresses or skirts. This spring I'm hoping to buy some metallic flats for daytime wear because I really like the touch of shine that they add to an outfit.

I wear my metallic shoes (both pumps and flats) as neutrals for daytime wear. That being said, none of them are overly shiny (they are more of a muted or burnished tone) and most are relatively unadorned, so I do not think they read as dressy. As for my metallic pumps (which are about 1 1/2 inches tall), I wear them with everything… jeans (of all styles -- even BF's), skirts, dresses, full length dress pants and ankle pants. I own one pair in pewter and one pair in a burnished bronze/gold tone. I often (but not always) bookend them with jewelry, belt or handbag. [But, just to be perfectly truthful, I am a bit of a magpie and metallics also fit my eclectic, somewhat maximal fashion personality.]

I LOVE metallic pumps, yes appropriate for day and yes, a neutral. My one caveat is that, depending on the material they can be a little stiff. If you find one that is a pebbled leather rather than a patent-like finish I think that's not only more comfortable but better for day.

I love my Calvin Klein Baisha pumps which Angie highlighted on YLF (and also has)! They are a soft gold with a slight texture. I have the same hair color as you--maybe they or something similar would work? I wear any time.

I think metallic pumps are fine for daytime - I think it's when you combine metallic with strappy that you get into the evening wear only kind of look.

It's in the details, then, isn't it? The right metallic color and finish (for coloring, for outfit, for occasion) including in the right style of shoe for same.

This is interesting! I totally agree that it's in the details. Somewhere I read that metallic shoes could be considered "loud", but to me, they've rather been like nude patent heels. I was wondering if I was alone in seeing them that way.

I think I bought my first pair of metallic shoes in London in 1982, at the age of 14. My mother didn't love my golden booties as much as I did I've sported silver strappy sandals for many years, but I haven't had pumps before.

I know that you wear metallic pumps and shoes as neutrals, Angie, and in a very inspiring manner, too! I adore both your metallic oxfords and pumps. I feel that the metallic shoe speaks to the playful side of my style, a lot more than nude/beige shoes do. Maybe a metallic pump is a better choice for me?

I think there are metallics and metallics, some are much more subtle than the others. The subtle metallics are really neutral in my book and go virtually with everything (well, you need to consider cool vs. warm colors of course)
However there are some high impact metallics like mirrored finish or very shine ones and they may be more difficult to wear in daytime IF your style does not have a bold element in it. I would treat them more like a bright color than a neutral in this case. And then there is a style in addition to the color: e.g.
a mirrored finish in flat oxfords (like Angie's) is tamer that the same mirrored finish in high heel stilettos or other grabbing attention style.

Ah, memories. Not pumps, but metallic running shoes...well, black and silver...in 1980 or so. LOVED. Them.

Anyway, I agree with the consensus here--they can totally be daytime neutrals if the style isn't too dressy. My bronzish gold daytime sandals bookend my hair in the summer, but I have more silver. However, no pumps--they don't suit my feet or style--so I'm no help with that specifically. I have 3 different pairs of silver sandals and silver-trimmed gray oxfords. All but one of those 4 are completely daytime styles.

How metallic? I have a pair of gold sandals but the metallic is more of a shimmer than reflective. They bookended my hair and they go well with my pale coloring. For me, they are daytime wear and I consider them a nude.

Yes!!! Metalilc is a neutral.
I just posted a WIW with metallic silver pumps for work. I could wear those for evening as well or fancify a pair of jeans even!

Yep. I wear my pewter-y silver pointy toe wedges all the time. All the time. Dressy. Casual. All of it. I can't believe how versatile they are. And to think, I used to have a poison eye for them (in my 20s, so that's excusable, right?).

I'd say so many other kinds of metallic shoes work for daytime that metallic pumps certainly could, as long as they're not super blindingly shiny or obviously "evening" in style. In fact, I'm kind of thinking I could use a copper or rose gold pair.

Can I be a spanner? I love metallics, but now that there's a photo, I'm unsure. The style is perfect, so is the heel height, but it looks a bit too mirrory to me. Does it make sense?

Yes, Ornella, it does, and it makes me a little unsure, too. I've considered this for a couple of days, but I haven't concluded yet. Angie's metallic Calvin Klein shoes are this shiny, and she looks fab in them with jeans, too.

Ingunn -- Interesting that Sarenza offers free shipping and returns. Would that offer apply to you as well, or is that only for UK? If it applies, you should definitely order these pumps as it will cost you nothing to try them. They do look quite shiny, but sometimes photos can be off. They may appear less shiny in natural light. I think that the color seems very neutral and the shoes would probably be very versatile.

I agree that "metallic is a neutral" if it's an actual metal color, like these. If they were fire engine red metallic, you might want to wait until the lights were dimmed.

I'm pretty sure that daytime shine and sparkle, like white after Labor Day, has been de-faux-pased.

I actually have the shoes in my possession right now - I bought them yesterday. They are quite nice, in fact. My concerns right now are:

Are they too shiny for everyday wear?
Are they too "young" for me? (I know, it's a hopeless question).

I do not think that they are too "young". To my eye, these have a refined, ladylike look. They do not appear overly kittenish. [I would wear these, and I am 56.] As to whether or not they are too shiny for everyday wear, I say play with them a bit and see how you feel about the degree of shine. I personally love to sport a bit of daytime shine, even when in jeans. It makes me feel playful and feminine. But others may feel it is a bit OTT. It is such a personal thing.

Having such a classic style, they are definitely not too young.
Have you seen Imogen's blog Inside Out Style? She has a post today on wearing metallics that you might find interesting. She had an earlier post on the same subject and one of her points was that we are drawn to levels of shine based on how 'shiny' we are. For example, someone with straight, shiny hair might prefer metals with a high shine, whereas someone with curly, wavy, or textured hair might be drawn to more matte finishes. I found this very interesting because I love textured/matte metals and yes, I have slightly wavy, textured hair.

I have a gorgeous pair of French Blue pumps with a reflective gold (not yellow bright gold) heels and each time I've worn then day or night the bling glimpse just doesn't work for me. Think you may have just this sense, from your hesitance.
I think it might be that my mother would have seen them and brash - and she had really good taste - so ..is there anything in that for you?
Polite way of addressing: generational issue?
