Hmmm. I viewed, then revisited, then thought, and now I'm back. I needed time to decide how I felt about these. I think you should give them another try. With that said, here's what I've worked out about them:
1. I think Anna and Dana have diagnosed dead on what isn't working with these. Your slim hips don't fill them out and bring out the jodhpurs shape that they also have. If they had pleats, they'd push out like that. That isn't a deal killer to me, but it describes what is challenging about the shape on you.
2. I'm not a fan of the wash you had in the original ones either. I think a different wash would be more appealing. Having a shape that pushes conventions plus a wash that pushes conventions is a lot.
3, Even with those negatives, I think the shape is interesting and fun and clearly it calls to you. I think that all the high-low tops, cropped tops and front tucking that is going on right now is made for you and these jeans. It will create a smaller waist, which will make the fit more flattering and showing it off.
So you should buy!
