Can we revisit nude micro fishnets vs. stockings?

I am loathe to bare by untanned, liver spotted, scarred white legs under dresses and skirts. So, short of self-tanning creams and leg makeup, was wondering if micro fishnets are still the best option (reading older posts from at least 4 years ago). I don't want the texture to make my legs any bigger, which it sounds like they won't. My hubby is in London next week and will ask that he get me the M&S ones I saw online. Are these the only ones or are there other like control top in the lingerie section at M&S? Is it still rather gauche to wear sheer pantyhose? I wore some under my tan ankle boots with a dress, but wondered if micro fishnets would look so much better?

I have never tried micro fishnets. But -- the lovely Duchess of Cambridge wears sheer pantyhose… and I figure if she is going that route, then they must not be too gauche to wear. As soon as we are out of tights weather here, I plan to bring out my nude hose. They nicely camouflage my spots, lumps and bumps.

Good question. I wear them (micro fishnets) for those few weeks when bare legs aren't right, yet tights are too heavy. I really like to wear dresses in spring and summer, and what else is there ? Nude hose seem unnecessarily formal for everyday (or for non-office environments) , and even though they have regained popularity, they still skew a little mainstream for my liking. I mean, is Kate Middleton really a fashion influencer ?

I wear M&S micro fishnets all summer. But then I would say that there is a trend here to wear nude tights in the day time particularly among the 20 somethings. I've felt decidedly frumpy with bare legs before.

Ugh! I hate panty hose. I have never found any that are comfortable. I have a thick waist and they either cut in or slide down. I wear tights in winter (larger than my normal size for the waist) and bare in summer and I guess I don't really wear dresses in the between seasons. But here in Michigan we don't get much in between.

I really like my Falke micro fishnets- it's a great nude for my pale skin (some other brands seemed more gray or had to large a knit). I prefer the longevity of the fishnets over hose which I always seem to run (I'm trying the freezer method to see if that helps). My legs are far from perfect and I think the micro fishnets help blur the imperfections. That said, come summer it's all self tanning lotion and getting over the fact that they aren't great (unless a more formal occasion then most certainly nude hose or micro fishnets).

I wear nude hose all the time. I have never ascribed to the "hose, oh horrors!" brainwashing. I like the look (very sheer, nude-for-you color) and also would freeze in air-conditioning without.
I also think it's fine not to wear them if they are uncomfortable or just not desired.

Hose can be expensive to "experiment " with but that's what I would aim for--find the color/texture/fit you like best for you and tell everyone else to go jump!

Isn't it odd that nude fishnets are what seems dated to me now?

Following Angie's lead, I now bare my untanned, blemished legs in the summer without a qualm. If I feel the need to look more polished for a dressier occasion, I wear my super-sheer, nude-for-me hose. It took some time and effort to find the right ones, but they look more natural than any leg make-up I've ever seen.

Muffin what is the freezer method? I'm intrigued.

I've worn nude hose and calf-high hose again for the first time in a long while this spring. I wear them with a little bit dressier skirts or refined shoes and bare ankles. I found a good color for me and I like it on cool cloudy days, but I instantly wanted to get the hose off in bright direct sun where the slight sheen was suddenly too noticeable. I'll need to look for fishnets for those days I think.

I think putting your tights in the freezer is supposed to make them last longer. I find it hard to go bare legged even in the summer as my legs are pale and blemished. I always wear tights for work.

Rabbit - probably just a silly old wive's tale or in this case an Internet spoof, but I read that if you take new tights/hose make them damp and freeze overnight (in a plastic bag) that the fibers actually strengthen and resist runs. I know, silly but I will give it go. I have an event in a couple of weeks that I'll be wearing nude hose too so I will report back!

I do wear nude sheer tights for the odd evening winter occasion but not often during the day. I am rough on my stockings and I go through them quickly.

I have sugar eye for fishnets both black and nude and will be restocking on my next department store visit. I prefer a micro fishnet.

I've never worn nude micro-fishnets, but I remember being intrigued at the idea when it came up here a few years ago. I think I'll buy a pair if I can find some that are close enough to my skin tone.

I just saw a couple of women wearing them around here last week, and they looked great and not dated to me. I've personally never been able to wear them because of what I call the "cheese grater" effect - I can feel the texture underfoot and it's really uncomfortable to me, like walking on a cheese grater. I've been keeping an eye out for a couple of years now for micro fishnet footless tights, but I don't think they exist.

I wear nude hose for winter dressy events but not for casual wear. Not because I don't like the look but because I have about a 1 in 2 chance of putting a finger through them when putting them on. Not to mention my pointy toes are also hazardous to hose.

Anyway in cool but not frigid temps, I'm more likely to wear tall boots with a skirt and bare knees than hose of any sort. More comfy, and more my style anyway.

I wear nude hose. Actually I started this year. I used to stop wearing skirts and dresses from April to June because I tought nude hose was a no-no. I got over this belief, thought of the Duchess of Cambridge, and I am happily sporting dresses and skirts this spring.
Have you tried nude fishnets? Regular size, not micro. I love them too.

Thanks everyone! I will try the nude micro fishnets and see how they work with my outfits. Some of my skirts/dressese are above the knee, so will experiment with sheer stockings/pantyhose too. It sounds like some of you are saying pantyhose looks better with dressier looks. I would also like to wear my BR tan suede booties with some dresses (swing style) and having worn pantyhose, think maybe micro fishnets would work in those instances. Might even try regular size fishnets. Many thanks again!

Just a word on the "micro" part of micro fishnets, in case you decide to go that route...

A few years back, when lots of us were wearing micro fishnets (black and nude, as I recall), I discovered that many tights calling themselves "micro fishnets" were in actuality regular fishnets. And thus, too boudoir and/or downtown punk rocker for me to wear to my job in an elementary school.

To me, for them to be MICRO fishnets, the netting should be so fine that it barely registers as netting unless one looks closely.

The only ones I found that really lived up to that standard were Levante Micronets. They really are tulle-like in the fineness of the net.

If you have more flexibility and prefer a more obvious fishnet look, Oroblus are nice.

I wear nude micro fishnets and sheer nude stockings, sometimes the fishnets over the plain ones for more warmth. Once I was wearing shear stockings with a shirt and flats while shopping. An SA actually got down on the floor for a closer look and still thought my legs were bare. I also use the freezer trick for helping nylons last longer, but do not wet them. I swear it helps. I also wash them in the sink in plain cold water immediately after taking them off and hang to dry over the tub or in the shower. If your stockings are not comfortable, you need to keep trying. I size up a size

Back in the day, when I wore pantyhose daily, I always laundered them in a lingerie bag, with regular laundry and dried them in the dryer...they lasted almost forever with no runs...in fact some of them faded over time!

I wear nudies and nude fishnets. The most covering option is the nude fishnet from Spanx for Target, which isn't really a fishnet because there are no holes, but they have the texture. I received some as a gift from my sister a few years ago. I don't see them available online right now.
