Can these sneakers be cute?

I know they're not cute-cute, but can a 40 year old mom make them look slightly stylish as run-around-town sneakers? I want pair of totally comfy sneakers (I love my converse chuck lowtops but they actually make my feet hurt when I wear them all day, and my orthotics don't fit in them!). How would you style these so they don't look frumpy--like all the street style pics of super young girls wearing them looking hip?

Like the boys do it, bf jeans rolled with a hint of ankle showing, comfy t and a smashing blazer, cool jacket etc. Don't forget to bring the girl by accessorizing with a fab purse.

I know that New Balance shoes are really comfy - but to me, they are more of an exercise sneaker, than a fashion sneaker - and I just can't imagine a way to wear them without them giving off that vibe. I would go for more of a fashion sneaker - sized up one size, so that you can wear them with your orthotics!

I think a colour would be better too. Are you looking at other brands? Addidas, Pumas, Supergas... I agree that cons don't quite cut it, although Angie did mention sizing up with an insole

I think what you have to do is add a little *girly sweet* somewhere else in your outfit to make these cool and the overall effect cute. Like a small patterned floral, a ruffled sleeve...

I agree -- size up with a fashion sneaker and make sure they fit your orthotics! I wear an insert in my Cons (otherwise they'd hurt too) and I also have a pair of hot pink Onitsuka Tigers I think if you get a random bright color, you don't have to worry about matching with your clothes.

I agree with either trying a fashion sneaker or another color in these.

But I admit to having a poison eye...my dad wears exactly these sneakers, in that color and he's 81.

Pretty utilitarian. You can't always have it all! I have yet to find a fashion sneaker that is as functional as an actual athletic shoe (not that I have done an exhaustive search).

I agree, a funkier color would make them more fashion-y. Or look for a similar sneaker with a lower profile - I think the substantial heel is making these look more 80s aerobics class than you probably want.

i think these are going to be really hard to style into cute. You have some good ideas above if you already own them. If not, I would definitely try a fun color.
