Can I wear them?

Not sure if this pants qualifies as palazzo pants, but they are very wide and long. They are linen and very comfortable in a heat and I did wear them few times last summer. But somehow I am not sure if I still want to wear them - they are in a holding zone at the moment. Can they be saved? Should I hack them to more manageable length? If you like them as they are do you have any styling ideas for casual high summer? Or should I just go ahead and donate them?

Gorgeous colour!

I would hack to a length that works on the shoes that I would wear with them.

I think the white sandals look super as does the top.

What is it about them that you disliked enough to put them into the holding zone?

Stylewise, try them with a cropped top. I’m generally not much of a tucker anyway, and never in the heat. I have amassed a non-so-small capsule of cross-seasonal cropped tops for my rapidly increasing number of high waisted pants (and one skirt) and it makes dressing so easy.

Re hacking, it depends on how that length works for you. Personally I love the length. That’s how I like to wear mine. But if you won’t reach for them because they are too long and fussy for you to feel comfortable wearing them, then get out your scissors!

Length is main reason why I don’t reach for them - they require heels and still drag on the floor so they get dirty very quickly. They are also little big and require a belt to stay up. And not sure they are flattering when tucked in, but I look wide when tucked out.
So to what length should I hack them?

Two to three inches above ankle bone. Or MUCH shorter.

Anchie, may I ask if they do fit you taking into account weight fluctuations? Would a take in on the waist and a hack be helpful? Would you love them then? And reach for them?

Jane - not sure if they can be taken on the waist- they have elastic there. I asked DH for pic from behind- not sure if they are worth investing in after seeing it

You could take in the back waist. Simple alteration for a tailor to remove some of the waistband fabric, add a couple of darts and even replace the elastic.

I like them with the striped top. I’d shorten to just graze the floor in bare feet, or hack to cropped. The color is beautiful on you.

I think the back view looks just fine, and I like them belted. As cjh says, it's a simple alteration for a tailor to do if you do want to take in the waist

You can really wear the high waist Anchie. I’m the odd person out on length—just expose the foot. Wear with anything you can tuck, any color, any print. Belt to fit!

I’m going to put in a vote for team anti-hack.

The “team” consists of just me Maybe Column will join too.

I think long is elegant with palazzo pants. I would commit to wearing them with a particular height of shoe (flat is fine) and then have the pants shortened so that they are just above floor height (say an inch) in those particular shoes. Much like flares.

Yes, and why not, great color and styling with the stripes! I would hack them shorter above the ankle and wear with all kind of flats!:-)

Brooklyn, I will join you on team keep them long - but shorten so that they can be worn with flats. I think these look really great with a belt and flattering from the front and back view.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond and give such useful feedback. I will take them to a tailor and see what she says and how much she estimates alternations. I got them last summer in Zara on deep discount for about 8 euros, I considered them fun experiment. Not sure yet how much I want to invest in them. Maybe I will just look for another fun pair for this summer.

I'm definitely in the "keep" camp. I would shorten them a bit, for practicality and safety, but I think I'd stick with a longer length (as Angie said, 2-3 inches above the ankle) rather than shorter. But that's probably just a personal preference for me.

I like them but would have them either shortened to above the ankle or to graze the floor. Too long right now.
