Can I pull off the mermaid dress?

I have fallen in love with this mermaid wedding dress, but am unsure if it is flattering on me. I need objective opinions!! I am also concerned that once it's hemmed it may lose the elongating effect, what do you think? I am 5'5'' and I am an inverted triangle, mostly, with very narrow hips, a larger bust and shoulders. I really appreciate any suggestions!

Queenie, I will definitely ask, that's a great suggestion. I know that they won't cut the ruffles in half, they'll just choose the one that hits the floor and cut from below it.

I've been addicted to watching "Say Yes to the Dress" lately and I think yours is quite lovely...it balances you so well (I had no idea that you were an inverted triangle until I read what you wrote) and I love that its so unique while being simple and elegant. I think you should definitely get it, and trust in the seamstresses' abilities to make it even more perfect for you...you look beautiful!

I'm not quite buying you as an inverted triangle. Your shoulders aren't so big, I'd say you're a rectangle or an hourglass. Maybe that's because of the dress?

Ladies you're probably right about my shape, I've never been sure myself. My shoulders are slightly wider than my hips and my waist is only slightly smaller than my hips. So maybe a rectangle is a better descriptor

Oooohhhh! That dress is lovely! I also think you are more of a rectangle than an inverted triangle. For rectangles, accentuating the shoulders and hips at the same time helps the waist look smaller and give off an hourglass look. I think this dress does just that for you. You look gorgeous in it!!

Well the dress is for sure now! My hair will be in a loose big curly bun to the opposite side of strap, with a birdcage veil with ostrich feathers Thanks again for the help, I'm so thankful I discovered this site, I've learn't so much. I plan to check in often!
