Can I get your opinions on these jeans?

I recently went away for a week to a conference, and realized while packing that I have a jeans wardrobe hole... ones that I would wear in a casual professional environment, with flat shoes.

I recently picked these up at BR. They fit well, are very comfortable, but I'm not sure about how they fall on the lower leg. I have fairly hefty calves, so most skinny or slim cuts just don't work for me. I was hoping for some nice slouch at the ankle, but wonder if these are heading more into frumpville.

I do have full length jeans that I can wear with booties, and I don't necessarily need anything right away, so it's not like I'm desperate. I just like the idea of something I can wear with flat shoes/boots.

These are turned up right now, I'd get them hemmed if I keep them.

Any input you may have is welcome!

I would like to see a full length picture before giving an opinion. And also with some different top options that you might wear with them. Hard to tell from just this pic.

Liz, thanks for chiming in. I'm not worried at all about styling them, I have many tops I can wear with them. And they do fit well through the top. My question is really just about if the legs look ho-hum in how they fall from the knee down. I'm afraid I didn't take a full shot as I wanted to zoom in and get a better shot of the area of concern.

But if others also feel a full length shot would help, I'll find time tomorrow to get one.

I'd like to hear what Angie says about length... Anyways, tho, I feel a need to see structure elsewhere in the outfit with these jeans. These feel very boxy to me...

I am a little uncertain about these. My first instinct is that there is a little too much room in the leg, but I realize you say you are trying to accommodate a strong calf. I am personally sensitive to too much room in the leg, because I size up to accommodate my high hip girth which often makes a baggy leg on me, so that is the perspective I come from.

I know that I would personally feel a bit off in these. But like Scarlet, I'm coming from a different perspective. I do have calves that fill up skinnies so they are like leggings, and I don't like that so much, so my holy grail is what I call a slim tapered straight, or maybe a slim BF so that there is enough room up top for me, and the leg is slim but not calf-sucking. For my leg shape, this shape of jean leg is not the greatest. But you have slim legs and they are longer than mine so I can't tell if the proportions might work on you.

What Scarlet said. They seem a little boxy but that may be ideal for you. You can do some structure on top with good fit in the shoulders and arms; maybe a semi-tuck.

Not sure - to be honest . I'm not loving them , but it could be a combination of the shoe and shirt worn here ....distracting from the jeans . I have a hard time with loose legged jeans and it could be my personal dislike colouring my opinion . But for flattery etc- I think a baggier leg needs a heel for balance .

Are they a little big in the thigh and hip area ?

I like them, but I warn you I’m into loose, wide jeans these days. I think they need a tucked top or a welted top though, you need to add structure elsewhere. I can’t remember if you’re a tucker? I have a vague notion that you’re not.

I am a nay. I agree with all the posters that felt they were boxy and maybe too big in the leg.

I agree with lisa p - these look too big to my eye, did you try one size smaller? For a work conference where smart casual is the dress code, I like to wear jeans with a tucked in blouse, blazer and a mid heel. That way, it is more dressy than casual, but definitely more dressy and pulled together than a weekend casual look.

I like these jeans by Boden (and worn with a blouse and heels) as inspiration. The fit is a relaxed girlfriend jean, so not too tight and not much fading on the jeans, but at the same time they look quite dressy how they have been styled. I also love the styling of this Boden look (featuring Angie's gorgeous velvet blazer, so you can't go wrong with this!), because this look is current and has personality, but hits the right corporate professional tone at the same time.

To me, professional casual is the hardest dress code and can be a complete minefield to get right. At the end of the day, feeling good about yourself and comfort is key.

hmmmm....i'm on a similar quest...perfect wear to work jeans, not to tight, not to loose, nice dark wash.....
IMO these are ok....but as you have them shown, too short.....now the question is "is just ok" enough, or do you want to keep looking...

I agree that to me they also look too big, and possibly a bit too short depending on the shoes you wear with them. You might be able to make them work as slouchy-loose if you wore a fitted or tucked-in top with them, but if you're never going to do that I'd look for a closer fitting pair.

I too aim for a slim straight for this kind of nice-casual occasion, and try for something that's fitted but not sausage-casing through the thigh and not baggy through the lower leg.

Thank you so much ladies. You've confirmed my hesitation. I think Rachy nailed it with the term "boxy".

I did try the smaller size, and they were just a titch snug around the waist for me, and I also found the snugger hip area emphasized the lower leg more... I thought they looked better with the leg a bit looser all over.

And the length is still up for grabs, these are talls, so I'd have lots of length to play with in hemming. The regular size was about an inch to short.

It's a good point that several of you brought up - I am not a tucker. Semi tuck, yes, but I do need to be more careful of structure on the bottom because of this.

I do not need these right away. I have a couple of pairs of boot cuts and wide legs that I can wear with heels for casual days here. I will hang tight for something slimmer than this, but not skinny, which is what I really want.

I think what is bothering me is what I deal with in the shoes-pants struggle...the flats force a shorter hem than looks right with that leg shape. The slouch would look nice if it could get close to the floor, but at that length it looks more like a bad fit.

You know I deal with this all the time, which is why I much favor a boot cut or flare, to be able to be hemmed longer and hide the shoes a little more. I know everyone is saying slimmer, but unless you want those shoes to be the stars of the show, I think a wider leg opening would look more polished and professional.

Well, I just read you already have such. Think of the money I've saved you!

I find they look dated.
They have to be cropped to not look dated, and maybe a little tighter through the thigh.
