Can I get away with this?

I've never tried leggings before and I'm feeling a little self conscious. I would be wearing this to a fairly casual office. What do you think, yay or nay? Any tips or insight would be greatly appreciated!

The first picture shows the whole outfit, but the lighting is poor. The second picture is there so you can judge the colors more accurately.

Blue Skies did you mean to hide your first photo? I can see #2 and the colors look very pretty on you. But I cannot see the whole outfit.

Have you just started a new job? It sounds like you are starting to put together a smart casual work capsule.

Its a cute look but not knowing your office it's hard to know what suitable. I am not keen on the high contrast of the skirt but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. I would be inclined to swap out that skirt for a slim line pencil skirt. In my mind that is still kind of creative looking but a little more professional.

Looks cute to me! Are the leggings black? I think a charcoal would also look really nice with the browns and blues you have going here. You could probably also do a more cropped length legging to lighten the look up a bit.

I've just started experimenting with leggings, too, although being in my 40's means that 1. I remember the 90's and don't wish to repeat them and 2. Some looks aren't age appropriate for me. Neither of these are issues for you!

I like this look very much, and you've discovered that leggings make a cute, but short skirt a little easier to wear without flashing the world! I agree with Aida that shorter leggings might work better here -- you could test this by scrunching these and snapping a photo. Whether it's "office wear" depends on your office culture, but it could certainly go to the movies, a lunch with a friend, etc, too! Love the blue and brown!

I've been experimenting with my one, lonely pair of leggings and photographing each combination. Some have been, well.....off, but others have been keepers.

I think you look very pretty! I started wearing leggins with boots or booties to get used to them. i figured others might think they were just tights. Now I'm much more comfortable in them. Just a suggestion. I think the whole outfit plays very well together and the shoes are great with the leggings!

I think it works because the colors are sophisticated and the details are dressing it up. I am not a leggings/skirt expert but keep playing with the look as it's cute.

I actually think the longer leggings might be less pushing-the-envelope for work, because they sort of read as tights, which are less, uh, unconventional than shorter leggings. Plus I think they look just fine. Better than fine!

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback! After reading all of your posts, I think I agree that this look is definitely borderline on being a bit too casual for work. I like the idea of trying them with boots, shorter leggings, a different pair of shoes, or trying a pencil skirt. I'll save this skirt/long legging combo for going out with friends. I definitely feel more comfortable in a midi-length pencil skirt at work (scared of repeating my leggings faux pas from the 90s!), so I think I am better off sticking to that.

How are you all dealing with the very short mini trend? Short of adding leggings, does anyone have any tips on how to wear mini skirts with class?

I like the leggings in your outfit. I think it should be reserved for more casual times, though.

As for the super short minis, the only think I can think is to be very conscious of how you move. A good test run could be to just wear it around your home so you can figure out the best way to sit while staying classy.

Blue Skies, I think that there aren't too many on YLF that are sporting the super short mini trend without any hose/leggings/pants underneath (and many have converted over to midis for the time being). I still wear minis (not super short ones) because I'm fairly short and they work well on me, but almost never without something underneath unless I'm in a very casual setting. It also doesn't get too warm where I live so I don't have many opportunities to wear them without something underneath Mini lengths are really fun with leggings of various lengths, printed/patterned hosiery, and even over skinny or flared jeans.
