Can I get away with this

I have always loved this skirt, with its dramatic asymetric details, which my sister picked up on the bargain rail at a boutique. I was so surprised when she handed it over to me on the weekend! I love it and I think I am going to wear it anyway (this is me "pushing the envelope")
The downsides are that
1. It is a long skirt
2. it is figure hugging from waist to thigh

Anne, these portraits of you are beautiful. You look like an angel in the pink skirt, with your beautiful blonde hair. (They really do look like portraits to me. Your kids will love these pics in years to come.)

It's pretty, and seem to fit pretty well. You could have it shortened to about knee length and you might get more use out of it.

I love it, but there again i have a black 1 very similar so i could be biased. I think because it's so fitted at the top it doesn't look overwhelming. Angie will probably shoot me!
Would also say definatley keep your tops fitted as in the photo

Love it on you! Though I agree with Chewy, I think it would also look great shorted a bit to be more versitile. The color is great on you!

San - what a lovely thing to say.

Kendra and Chewy - I actually think this is one skirt whose glory would be diminished by shortening. I am not sure how much is showing on your monitors. but I think the full sweep of the skirt's line, the placement of the pocket and the interesting seaming are best served by a longer length.

Loulou - I think you are right about the fitted top. BTW that is why my sister gave it to me - she says it looks better with a fitted top but she personally does not "do" a fitted top wth a fitted bottom. Wearing heels with this is part of making it work too.
I am sure Angie did say something somehow about longer skirts working with the right details!

Anne, I think it looks fantastic! Such a breezy summer look. I am a fan on longer skirts and this one has plenty of interest and shape so it doesn't look boring and frumpy. You look beautiful in those colours!

Anne, I think it's a gorgeous skirt and the color is so flattering on you. To me, this length makes it seem like a formal skirt (to be worn with a dressy camisole, heels & wrap sort of idea) - I don't know how you would wear this casual. It's too dramatic to be a boho look. I look forward to seeing others' suggestions.

I am swooning over your skirt here! Definitely "pushing the envelope" It is so gorgeous and unusual! Wonder what Angie will say about it - I recall she is not a fan of long skirts in general.

It is dramatic and boho - I could see it on a hot summer night with sleek flat sandal and fitted tank top. You could try for this summer and see how comfortable you are pushing the envelope and have shortened later if you want.

Angie - maybe this could fit as an Israeli, ethnic/boho look? Curious how you will weight in.

Okay ladies, here’s my 2 cents:

It’s an interesting skirt design for sure, but Anne knows I’ll prefer it shorter. A long skirt is just not a day time look, or a casual look at any time of the day. In an evening fabric with the right ensemble pieces, absolutely. A long skirt will even work with heels on a shorter person in this scenario. (Eva Longoria does this well). But casual long day time skirts just don’t make my grade on anyone –not even models. I feel the same way about maxi dresses – similar concept. BUT! I do think that the colour looks beautiful on Anne, and I mentioned in another thread that it might be her very best shade to date.

Could you have this hemmed say..tea length or a little shorter? somewhere around mid calf?? It is very pretty, but alot of fabric for daytime.:) They are great photos by the way.

Ok Angie, so it isn't an evening fabric - but could I get away with it stylewise (re thighs!) if it was?

Oh BTW Angie (re other thread) I don't think it is coral - that is kind of orange-y ipink sn't it? It is more a slightly faded hot pink. One of my monitors shows it looking coral.

Taylor - that is an interesting idea - maybe a mid calf length could keep the line in a way that a knee length couldn't

I think mid-calf is usually less flattering than other skirt lengths, even a maxi skirt. It's usually pretty stumpifying, at least on me.

I've been known to wear a semi-casual long skirt. I usually pair mine with a tank and delicate sandals and have it as a afternoon-to-evening summer look. I think it's pretty important to keep the top relatively bare to balance out the covered-ness of the long skirt.

I think your skirt is really pretty, and I wouldn't hem it.

I suggest that length because I have a black silk taffeta skirt in that style and length. I had it taken up to mid calf and now I wear it everywhere. I think you could wear it with flats and a white tee, or dress it up with heels.

Also, at that length you won't lose the line of the skirt...slim through the hips and fuller above and beyond the knee...just a thought.:)

I’m 100% with Taylor. Sorry Anne, but I just don't see this length of skirt unless you have a very strict religious dress code, or you’re going to a formal event and it’s in a dressy fabrication. You certainly don’t need to take my word as gold, but I would not be doing my job if I was stretching the truth.

Angie were you responding to Taylor's idea of a mid-calf skirt? (ie hemming it to mid calf) That's what I was hoping you would respond to.

Well I have decided not to hem it because I wore it again today for a very good reason - hadn't shaved my legs and all my suitable jeans were in the wash.

Angie - you know how fond I am of you and how I usually try to follow your advice right? I am just going to go it alone on this one. I live in a country town and long skirts are quite suitable day wear here, even among the most stylish. I don't think a single soul would look at me in person and think I was dressed inappropriately.

Plus, I got complimented on the pink skirt today and the denim skirt (I have shown a few times, most recently in the Prof Plum post) every single time I wear it. It fits impeccably and I always wear it with fitted tops and heels.

But - remember I just got this handed down to me. I didn't buy it (And the denim one pre-dates YLF). I promise I will not go out and BUY any new long skirts!

Yes Anne. I was responding to Taylor's suggestion - I think it’s a good idea. But you might have to have the skirt tapered a bit at the side seams to balance proportions if you do this. However, you’d prefer to keep it as is and of course that’s absolutely fine by me :0)

Well I might reconsider re-hemming- can you let me know which part of the side seams would need to be taken in - below or above the flare? ( I am predicting you will say below, as the top part of the skirt is quite form fitting_
