Can I do short hair? ETA: I can!

Some of the hair posts lately have me wondering about how well I could pull off short hair. For most of my adult life, I've kept my hair somewhere between my chin and a bit past my shoulders. I'm a wash and go kind of girl, so I rarely do anything fun with it. It's either like it is in this picture that I snapped this morning, or it's up in a messy ponytail.

I'm loving some of the short cuts I'm seeing, though, and wondering what style you all thing might work with my face shape? I'm not sure I could pull off a short pixie, but maybe some other short cut? Or am I better off leaving it long?

We have been enjoying the " Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" on Netflix. The title character lives in 1929 Australia and has a beautiful shiny dark angled bob. I think you would look great in that style if your hair is fairly thick and straight.

I love your hair but then I am a long hair gal...You have so much versatility with longish hair..up, down, back...I can understand the need for a new do but before I cut it off...I would perhaps see a stylist and ask for other not so drastic suggestions...

Love the bob idea. Your hair is so gorgeous and your strong features would be terrific with a cut that has bold lines like that. Your stunning eyes, lovely mouth... I am very pro short hair - or pro hair experimentation, anyway. If you have a great stylist (who is open to adventure) I would ask him or her too.

I was thinking ear to chin length and feel that bangs would look absolutely great on you (either side swept or straight)

You are very pretty! I agree that a cut with bangs would emphasize your gorgeous eyes and make the most of them and balance your face. I think asymmetrical bangs would work best.

I think you could definitely carry it off!

I have gone between long and short and mid length several times and love the change up. I agree some sort of chin length bob, whether a sharp one or a more reached one would work. Mine is a wob ( wavy bob, read this word yesterday) and it is pretty easy to maintain.

You have especially pretty eyes and the shape of your face and jawline is very nice too, so I don't see why not? I like Lara's suggestions because going from loose, longer waves to a short Miss Fisher stylized bob might be too far too fast, and you could always cut the bangs shorter later.Having bangs at all will be a big change if you haven't before, and the very precise ones are much higher maintenance.
Make sure you trust the judgement of the stylist. Now is not the time to bargain hunt!

Joy- what a great suggestion! I have admired that cut on others in the past and never would have thought of it for myself. I love how distinctive it is. And I'm going to have to look up that show!

crutcher - you're right that long hair is much more versatile, but I'm afraid I don't have the patience to do much with it, so I'm not taking advantage of the length I have now.

rachylou, viva, and Lara - more bob votes, I like it!

Suz - thanks for the compliment! I've had side swept bangs in the past, and I did like them. I just never kept up with the bang trims required.

Kiwigal - I love wob! I've always been envious of wavy hair - you're lucky!

Isabel - thank you for the suggestions! I definitely trust my stylist - won't be trying anyone new for this

AM - WOW! That helps me so much! I honestly would have been a little worried about going straight to that cut but I think Joy was right - it looks good!

Jumping back to in to say - I did it! Thanks to Joy's FANTASTIC suggestion, I went for the
short bob with bangs. Results in the pic. I absolutely love it. Thanks
for idea and the encouragement!
