Can Hunter rain boots be stretched?

After my rain-related meltdown yesterday I finally ordered some rain boots. Thanks to the miracle of Zappo's customer service I got my new Hunter rain boots today. (Seriously, how do they do that? I place the order yesterday evening.)

The boots seem good but may be a bit narrow. Do you know if it's possible to stretch or otherwise widen rubber boots?

I haven't a clue, Medusa. My gut instinct would be to say no. I'll be watching this with interest to hear what the others have to say. Isn't Zappos amazing!

I love Zappos, too! I don't know about stretching Hunters. Are you talking about the fit in the foot or the calf? I have the Huntress style which is wider in the calf. Not sure if it is larger in the foot area or not. My feet are slightly wide, and I am able to wear my fleece welly socks with my Hunters. Maybe you should size up?

I think Zappos is magic. Like Santa.

I should have explained - it's a problem with width in the foot. I have bunions, and the boot presses on them when I wear them with the fleece socks. The length is perfect, though. Hence my thoughts about stretching...

Ok this is pretty farfetched but when I had trouble with some duck shoes (remember those?) in high school one of my teachers suggested this. Fill shoe with dry beans, add water & place very close to a heat source. Leave overnight. I never tried it so I have no idea if it'll actually work. But otherwise I think you're out of luck.

Oh, you can also try filling a baggy with water, tightly seal, and place in the shoe, then put the shoe in the freezer. Also no sure if this would work. Maybe you could try taking them to a cobbler?

Medusa, I'm worried about the rubber pressing up against your bunions. The last thing you want is to be in pain, especially if you'll be wearing these in the cold. Since Zappos is so quick with delivery, could you hold off on these and order another brand to compare?

Hmm. I had a similar problem with a pair of rubber rain boots and couldn't do anything to stretch them. I ended up tossing them.

Did you order the classic style or something else?

I am also looking to see if I can stretch the width of my Hunter rain boots. I think it is just the width of my left foot - my right foot feels fine.

Raene, I couldn't find a way to do this. The cobbler I talked to said they couldn't do it. In the end I just went up a size. The larger size is a bit looser but the width is great.
