Can girls with big calves wear leggings?

As stated above.

For sure calf-length leggings don't suit me since it emphasizes the widest part. But what about black ankle-length ones? I'm a bit hesitant so I would like to know what you guys think.

Alexis, I have *very* wide calves. We're talking more than 18-inches...and the ladies have assured me that I can wear leggings at either cropped or ankle lengths. Just ensure that you have a fabulous dress or tunic over the leggings. That will direct attention away from the legs in and of itself.

Have you seen the thread where forum members of all shapes and sizes wear leggings? If not, let me know and I'll dig up the link.

I've taken a GLANCE (just a glance) of that leggings post. Those are fabulous ideas. But I'm a teenage fashion newbie who starts to believe that I should take care of my appearance, so I would like to dress my age (no offense! you guys are awesome (: ). I don't have good clothes in my closet to pair with leggings. Seems like I have to do some shopping...

Dressing your age is key and makes perfect sense! Just don't go for the "leggings as pants" thing. I'm sure you can find tons of youthful dresses and tunics.

Alexis, I was a teenager just a few years ago... just find some cute dresses/tunics that you like and pop them over leggings. Easy. I bet lots of girls at school are wearing leggings, right?

Another one with big calves....even before I became a runner. I usually prefer cropped leggings myself. I like them to hit not far below the knee.

I struggle with this myself. I think by the time I accept the look on myself, it will be over. I take big calves to a whole other level, since mine measure in at 19 inches. I have thick ankle and leg bones plus a lot of leg muscle that has been built up by long walks and participation in a sport that involves near-constant squatting stances. However, despite the largeness of my calves, my legs are shapely and in proportion so I know I shouldn't necessarily shy away. But leggings seem to shorten my legs. I wonder if this is because all my skirts are about knee length. It seems leggings often look best when one is wearing a slightly abbreviated skirt. I might figure out which of my dresses are shortest and try my leggings with them.

My calves are around 15.5" and I prefer cropped leggings too! I push them up above the widest part of my calf (so, like, around clamdigger length) which is very flattering. The trick is just not to have them end right at the widest part.

Representing the skinny calved, I'd say that you have the advantage over us with cropped leggings. Go for it.

I too am owner of chunky calves (5'4" and 15.5 inch calves) and stumbled on this post after some vigorous online searching. Marianna, I clicked on your link but could not bring the photo up. Any ideas why?

I'd like to know where to *BUY* leggings for big-boned women! I end up pulling them up all the time because they're so tight on my calves.
I asked someone on a website if the plus sizes are wider in the calves, and I never got an answer. I can wear maybe 18, especially considering how the sizes are so small the past decade, but no bigger. I wear men's shoes and I can't get bangles on. I'm not that fat. Maybe 20 pounds over.

@Paula Have you tried buying a size bigger? I find that they will then go on easier. I do the same for pantyhose. Good luck & hope you find something.
