Can cutout booties be worn with socks?

I love the cutout booties that are around, and picked up a pair, but have yet to wear them! They are not comfortable enough to wear without socks, but they look odd when I do put on socks. They are black, so if I wear black socks you can't really see the cut outs.
What is the consensus, can they be worn with contrasting socks? Should I try nude knee-highs?

I wear mine with colored socks sometimes. I figure if you are going to have visible socks they might as well be fun.

OMG Neelie! You read my mind! Today I put on my new pair of cutout booties (below in finds) and was wondering hmm, should I be wearing socks? I don't think so, bc mine are perforated (ok, maybe ALGO - perf! cutout! gold! but I loved them and wanted a flat light colored bootie and the price was right)

Like Diana, I think wearing them with colored socks can be a fun look depending on the outfit. I see this look on Pinterest a lot. IMO, it would be a fun way to wear them with jeans, or other very casual outfits. Then with the nude hose for a more polished look like with pants other than jeans or skirts, or something like jeans and a silk top and blazer etc.

I will have to try the visible sock trick. For now I am wearing them without any socks. I will likely wear them this way for all but the chilliest of times, as our fall/winter is not really THAT cold. I might try the colored sock trick but to be honest it might be way too ALGO for me, as I'm already dealing with perf, cutouts and gold hardware.

so, this is probably a really stupid question, but what is ALGO?

As for the booties with socks, I have wondered the same thing, and I think it can definately be cute with socks or hose or maybe even colored tights. I've been looking for a pair with cut-outs and was thinking that I would try to wear them in the winter with tights or leggings and short socks. I'll be curious what others say.

I like Diana's idea of using fun-colored tights. However, I think you could do nude knee-highs as well.

The precise reason I've avoided them, much as I like them. The time between putting away the toes and needing socks here is about 1.43 days. Not enough wears even for a maximalist shoe person such as myslef! I really wasn't sure about the sock thing. Diana rocks that look... not so sure it's me.

Thanks for the input everyone! Still not sure what I'll do...I'm not a coloured socks kind of person...maybe just grey socks with them. I got a very inexpensive pair so no big deal if I don't wear them too often. I'll watch everyone's WIW's for ideas...

I second Gigi on nude knee-highs. I wear them a lot, when I want a sockless look, with flats and sneakers and pants. If I had those booties, I'd wear nude knee-highs with them, too.
I've also worn nude fishnets with my cutout peep-toe booties and a dress.
Diana, those booties and socks are so cool looking with your outfit!

I like the print sock with the cutout boot. I could see my daughter or her art school friends wearing it, and integrating the sock print into whatever else they were wearing that day. Interesting look. Funky and fun. Definitely not for me. I would wear nude hose, or a solid color sock.
