Can anyone recommend some cute, yet casual necklaces?

I am having a hard time finding necklaces that are casual enough for my MOTG lifestyle, yet not too casual (ex. my rubber teething necklace, that my 16 month old loves). Everything I'm seeing look like I should be going to the office or out on a date instead of running around with my toddler.

I'm browsing etsy for that very thing right now. What sort of style are you thinking-- pendant or beads, short or long, etc?

What does everyone think of this type of necklace. My little one would love it, but I don't know if it's too "mommyish".

Almost all my jewelry comes from Kohl's or New York and Co.
Browse Nordstrom Rack too if you have one near you.

And I like this one too, to wear with a very casual tee/shorts/wedge sandals, day at the beach or grocery store trip.

Am I totally off track? I can't decide if these things were more appropriate with my hoodie/jeans and tee with track shoes kind of Pre-YLF era. Or if they are casual, cute.

You might also (since you're thinking natural stones) think about ten thousand villages (http://www.tenthousandvillages.....page=10000). Also, I confess that I LOVE the jewelry from Sundance (http://www.sundancecatalog.com.....do?nType=1). They both trend quite casual, but not rubbery. =)

Kim, I've browsed and purchased many things from Kohl's and the things I've found only look right on my more "dressy" casual dress days...like when I go to a Dr.'s appointment or program for my children. Most things still seem too "done up" for my days with a toddler.

I think everything you linked to is lovely, and I wouldn't have thought "mommyish" about any of them. (Though, come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever thought that about an accessory!) I particularly like the wooden ring-- it's very striking to me.

Glad you don't think the pieces were mommyish. I guess I thought mommyish because they were designed to distract little ones while they are nursing. Also, I liked them before I joined YLF too. which always makes me wonder if it's too gear looking because to me, gear was casual and casual was dressy and dressy was, well, something I'd never wear.

I think pendants (both long and short, but short I find are easier to match with everything and seem more casual) would really work great for you.

I have never bought off etsy, but what I usually do is just get some cheap ones from Forever 21 or go to the craft store and make my own with some charms and chain. I'm not sure if you want baby-distracting functions built in, but I also personally really like things in gold or silver-- it gives a bit of shiny to anything, and pretty much goes with everything.

I've gotten a few pieces from Christopher & Banks. They tend to have what I consider to be artsy kind of jewelry, which I happen to like.

I like what you posted, but they do seem like "mommy" pieces since a few of them say "teething", "nursing". LOL But I like them just the same.

I like all the ones Bella linked, especially the turquoise multi-strand one. I'm not overly fond of any of the Etsy ones you linked except the wooden hoop one :\ I think for casual outfits that simpler pendants are going to work really well for you, as would a strand of chunky, colorful stones.

Are you still nursing? Or do your toddlers pull on things at your neck?

I quit wearing beaded necklaces because I broke so many at that stage! So, from personal experience, I'd stay away from Target/fashion necklaces until your kids no longer have graspy fingers......

I like the ones that you've posted as viable sturdy alterative that a kid can pull at and stick in his/her mouth without harm. I've never heard of nursing necklaces, and wouldn't recognize them as a "Mom" necklace. FWIW, I think they are cute!

Just because I like to make things complicated I think you should try a dressier necklace with your casual outfits. It will bring the outfit up a notch and is easier than buying new clothes! Start with one from someplace like Kohl's or even F21 and I think you'll find it addictive. I have several from F21 that I love to throw on over a plain black t-shirt or other basic top.

Before coming here, I never really even thought about dressy v. casual jewelry!

Bella-not opposed to fashion jewelry at all, as long as it doesn't look too "fussy"? Hard to explain, but those pieces you linked look great and I've put several in my Target shopping cart.

Isis-I am still nursing and my necklaces need to be pretty sturdy because little man does like to grab anything I'm wearing. So far, I've been able to stop him before he's broken anything.

Aida-I got the wooden hoop. I think my toddler will love it even if I don't decide to wear it out. I agree that pendants will be good for me. Just finding the right ones is the trick.

Una- I have tried putting on the dressier, more sparkly necklaces with my casual outfits and I usually feel odd, like I'm overdone to be chasing my toddler through Target or the grocery store. I wear the dressier pieces with my casual wear when I am going to an appointment and you're right, it does feel fab.

Yay! The wooden hoop is neat and should work for casual outfits If you're feeling crafty you could also attach various colorful things to it to change it up (eg a small silk flower, wrap some colorful beads around it, add some dangly chains...)
