Can a "pear" pull this off?

I have been eyeing this dress for sometime. I just can't decide if the stripes would be flattering on a pear or not so much!

Dang it, I did try something similar but I felt it made me look wider. I ended up exchanging the dress for a smaller size and gave it to my daughter. She is a rectangle, i'm a pear. It does look fantastic on her. Then again, everything looks fantastic when you're 18:)

I never buy from Boden, do they have free shipping/ returns? I'd say give it a shot, you never know. I try everything under the sun. Worst case scenario, you get a chuckle out of it.

You can sometimes get free shipping offers from Boden, but generally it's $10 shipping and returns are not free. Actually I see a pop up ad right now offering 15%off and free shipping. code is WAFL

Yes, I think you should give it a try! I would be more concerned with the empire waistline personally, since the combo of empire waist + stripes on top on me at least makes me appear even more short waisted than normal.

Also, as a short waisted pear Boden never works for me. I think they cut for smaller hips and bigger waist.

Hmm, I am also a short waisted pear. Perhaps I shall wait until they offer free shipping and free returns. I can't take it back to the store as there are none in my area, so I would have to pay to ship it.

I just ordered a striped dress from White House Black Market to try. Horizontal stripes, though. Still, if it doesn't work, easy enough to take back!

I can't tell you how much it comforts me to read about the "boob to tummy ratio." I have that problem, and have admitted it elsewhere. . . but have often been treated like a freak of nature or perpetually pregnant woman as a result. I helps me to know it's not just me!

I think this may actually be the perfect striped dress for a pear. The stripes on top provide width in the smallest part of a pears body which provides great balance. The skirt appears flared and hip skimming with vertical stripes that lengthen the more curvaceous parts of a pear's body - definitely worth a try.

I thought vertical stripes were supposed to slim and lengthen? And if you're a pear, your wider parts are on the lower half, which is where the vertical stripes are. The horizontal stripes would be on your upper half, which is smaller anyway. Seems like a match made in heaven to me!

I suspect it will depend on where the pattern of additional stripes hits on your hip. If it is a heavy fabric that will not be stretched over your hips, it sounds very promising. I love this dress and hope it works for you.
